just wondering if anyone has heard of a series of books written by vladimir megre - called the ringing cedars/anastasia series. It’s sort of a spiritual type series looking at how humans should live (on their own block of land/grow own vegetables and food organically etc) and how they should eat to stay healthy and live a long life. It has some pretty interesting insights and has sold apparently 10 million copies in russia, where a lot of people who can manage it are moving out of cities to live on farms and grow their own food, etc, as a result of reading her books.
Haven’t heard of the books but nothing wrong with the idea…and if we went veggie there would be a lot more room to grow crops because cows would not be filling up all those fields and their methane gas would not be polluting the atmosphere! Theres also a theory which makes sense that food grown in our own country and climate is much better for us than mediterranian or tropical foodstuff because growing in the same clime as us they are more suited to provide us with the right nutrients our body needs.
I don’t know the book but I know a bit about food sciences and it is known that local food will have bacteria that is familiar to our bodies on it (from the local soil) and the faster it goes from ground to our bellies the more vitamins we can get from it (bit simplistic but essentially true) and organic food makes sense as we’re not having to deal with chemical by products that are undesirable (and in some case down right dangerous).
It’s even a prinicipal we apply to our dog who’s on a raw food diet AKA BARF (Biologically Appropriate Raw Feeding) as he’s a carnivore who would naturally catch rabbits, he’s the healthiest dog in the village too so it’s not just us humans who should take a good look at how and where we evolved.

PS: I am biased. I’m moving in a month and giving up my garden so I can live in a nice converted barn and I’ll also have an allotment. Mum gave me Carol Kleins grow your own veg book for xmas and it’s a great starter book if your intersted, I’ve been growing a few veg for a few years now… just call me Barbara (my OH is already called Tom;)
I haven’t heard of these books but they do sound interesting.Since I found out that I am not immortal my husband and I have dug up a piece of our garden( he does the donkey work). Last Summer was sort of an experiment to see how we got on and what worked and what didn’t. Our seeds we used were also organic. It was very satisfying to pick my own veg just before our meal and we plan to expand the area in the Spring so we can grow more. I don’t know whether it is psychological but I feel more healthy now than at any other time in my life!
Theres nothing better than planting and harvesting your own veg. no chemicals no waste it all goes back to compost. You dont need to lose the garden either just incoroporate the veg in your borders, pots or growbags. Spinach carrots beetroots and potatoes can all be grow in 9" pots. leave them and they just blend in.
Carol Klien in the godess of gardening could watch and read her forever
Hi
I’m going green well sort of anyway. during chemo i got a chap to butcher the garden and got rid of loads of lorrel. Anyhow my OH hates gardening but i want to go green. So walking down the high street one day i see a notice in the postoffice window about “man wants to cultivate garden for free and will split veggies 50/50.” I give him a ring and he comes over, OH thinks i’ve lost the plot inviting strangers into the house. Anyhow Mark is lovely and he’s been coming over once a week so far digging the roots of the lorrel out preping the ground. He wants to go green but can’t get an allotment. I want to go green but dont want to do the work as its difficult to find me time with 3 kids so this way everyones happy.
