Hi i have been diagnosed with invasive lobular cancer which has not shown up on scan but had a core biopsy which showed i had bc. Consultant said it only felt small but after breast mri it was found to be 4cm and they also found another one that is still only small. Is there any lobular ladies that can tell me what size their tumour was, if they had more than one and what treatment they had. I am booked in for a double mastectomy with immed recon on weds but do not see onc until tues afternoon.
Everything is happening so fast.

Hi sandra,
I wont bore you with details of my earlier probs - too complicated. But when i got bc in the other breast it was lobular invasive and 7 cm. Originally it didnt show up on mammogram, but that mammogram was unbelievably painful - i had many before but never like that. I felt physically sick for several days after. Then about 2 mths later noticed a large lump which was growing rapidly. I had a mastectomy and full node clearance - it had invaded extensively there too. after surgery I had 30 sessions of rads. Then was put on taxotere. All this was back in 1999/2000 so treatments have been changing since then. My tumours have all been ER/PR neg and HER2 +++. I believe it is quite common for lobular not to show up on mammograms. Hope all goes well for you with the op on weds.

Hi thanks for replying I thought my tumour was large but not in comparison to yours. I am very uptight about my op and feel physically sick with nerves on not knowing what the future holds. I find it hard to stay positive but stories like yours makes you feel better.
Thanks Sandra XXXX
I have pm’d you with more detail Sandra - but wanted to say that if I had decisions to make with hindsight I would do what you are doing now. You dont say what your ca. is - ER pos/neg;her2 pos/or neg etc. What sort of reconstruction are you having - is it a diep or a lat. dorsi? So many questions - sorry if it sounds intrusive.

Hi Sandra
I too had an invasive loular cancer which was not picked up by mammogram ultrasound, mri or ct scan.It was diagnosed after biopsy of the ‘lump’ which was really just a thickening. Anyway it was 4.5cm with a second smaller one of 0.5 cm, both grade 2 stage 2. I had 2 WLE and got a clear margin so no mastectomy. I have since had 6 FEC and am now having 15 sessions of rads.I was lucky there was no node involvement (they took 26!). After rads I will start Tamoxifen as I am ER and PR positive. Hope this helps. No 2 people seem to have the same treatment and it is a puzzle why some are offered mastectomies whilst others are not.
Take care and let us know how you get on
cyber hugs
Margaret.
