Lopsided

Hi all, I’m hoping someone can give me some advice. Since completing my radiotherapy at end of Jan after a lumpectomy it has become more apparent that I have become lopsided by as much as 2 cup sizes bigger on the treated breast. My breast feels heavier than normal but I’ve been making sure to still to my exercises. Don’t want to make a big deal about it but it’s really starting to bother me. Any suggestions about what I can do? X

Hi Grace.
It sounds like you could have some swelling from the surgery. Radiotherapy usually shrinks the tissue so it may settle down. If I were you I’d contact your breast care nurse for a chat to see what she says. X

My treated breast is also bigger and firmer than the other one, I finished radiotherapy in mid Feb and when I saw the onc 2 weeks ago he warned me that the changes were permanent, which I hadn’t expected. Like you Grace, I feel slightly lopsided

Hi Taz123, I have contacted my bcn who was very helpful and they have scheduled an appointment for me on Friday morning to have it looked at. She thinks that it may be Lymphoedema. I was aware of this but thought it generally happens in the arm area. If it is this she has said I will need referred to a Lymphoedema nurse to see what can be done. Xx

No problem I will give you an update once I have been tomorrow. X

Hi Taz123, been to see bcn this morning and they have said that I defiantly got Lymphoedema in my breast and it’s not just normal swelling. The have taped me up today with kinesthetic tape (this is the bright coloured stuff that is normally used in sports injurys) and I have to keep it on for at least 5 days then get it changed. In the meantime I have been referred to a Lymphoedema nurse for ongoing management of it and may need to try a compression bra if the tape and massage doesn’t help over the next week or so. X
