I had my assessment yesterday for Chemo No 4 planned for tomorrow. I suffered quite badly with sickness on No 3 and told the oncologist this at the assessment. She has prescribed Lorazepam - two tablets - one to be taken an hour before chemo and one the next day. Just wondered if anyone else had had this for sickness?
Have read that it can cause drowsiness and just wondered if anyone had any experience of this. When I did a search on this it seemed to be mostly prescribed for anxiety.
Many thanks in advance for any help.

I think I had this one. Is it the one you put under your top lip. I don’t know whether it helped or not. But the one that did help was Emend - may be worth asking about that.
Not been told to put under my top lip, just told to take it an hour before. I have read a lot about Emend on here and how good it is. Will ask about Emend. Thanks.

Hi Beverley
I do know that lorazapam is prescribed to help with anticipatory sickness. I had a lot of vomiting and nausea and began to feel sick every time I got near the chemo unit.
Personally I didn’t get on with it as I get so knocked out by drugs like that. Worth giving it a go though.

Hi Beverley
I was prescibed lorazapam as well as Emend after chemo 2 as I had been very sick. I take half a tablet four times a day for four days. I got emend to take at the same time (three tablets one beore chemo and one on day 2 and 3) So far now on chemo five and haven’t been sick since so something has worked for me.
Good luck.

Hi all
The sickness tablet you put under your top lip is buccastem, I had this one during chemo. It is quite effective.
Take care all

i have lorazepam for anticipatory sickness and take it an hour before i go for chemo. Can’t say if it works as i haven’t had chemo without it, but it does make me a bit detached and drowsy which i find quite useful for chemo to be honest! I have rotten sickness and nausea after, have asked for emend but my onc has said he can’t give it to me, am seeing him tomorrow morning to have it out with him before tomrrows chemo session ( fec 3).
My daughter takes Lorazepam to control anxiety attacks. She takes half a tablet. We were told it’s a drug that can be given as a pre med. It does seem that it helps one relax which can only be good so I hope that it works for you.
She has been prescribed Metoclopramide for sickness but so far very rarely needs it. She also has Omeprazole which she takes every day to keep her tummy in order.
Good luck with your treatments,
Penel
Thanks for all your replies. I didn’t take it in the end as I had read about the drowsiness and as I had a bad reaction to another similar drug I had for anxiety earlier this year, was a bit reluctant to try it. Had No 4 chemo yesterday and didn’t feel as bad but was sick last night when I got home. This morning though feeling ok and have managed something to eat.
I will have a word at the hospital about Emend as this seems to be the one everyone recommends. I will explain my fears about the other one.
Once again many thanks for everyone taking the time to reply.
