Loss of feeling and srength

Loss of feeling and srength Hi all,

I had a WLE with ANS at the beginning of January. I had no spread so I only had 3 weeks rads (& no chemo) which finished 19th April. It was postponed twice i) because of seroma and ii) because of infection - cellulitis.

I’m trying to re-join normal life. The area under the armpit is still numb. I realise this is normal after the op, but is it normal to last so long? Will I ever get the strength back in that arm and stop being even more clumsy than ever?

I’m trying to re-educate my body again - did it after back/hip problems and brain injury - but there’s not much of me left OK. I hurt my wrist on my “good” hand by not carrying/doing too much with my bad one.

I also haven’t got the mobility for driving and manoevuring that I used to have. Luckily all I lost was my hub cap, the tyre’s OK.

Has anyone improved after 4 months?

Chris

Hi Chris,

Sorry, can’t offer you much reassurance that the numb feeling goes. I had my mastectomy April 06 and still have numb feeling in armpit all the time, and sometimes it even extends to as far as my back - just under shoulder. Also still get pains in the general area too, especially if I’m not generally well - seems to be a weak spot. But we’re not all the same, and hopefully your feeling will come back - fingers crossed for you anyway.

Love and hugs, Jean xx

Thanks Jean Hi Jean,

Thanks, that’s all I need to know so I can accept it and work around it, rather than expecting everything to get back to normal and be disappointed. I’m a natural pessimist who has been positive throughout this experience.

Hi Chris

I had my mastectomy early January, and I still have no feeling under the armpit and the underside of my upper arm, there is also really no feeling at all along the scar and surrounding area. I had quite a few problems post op like you, I was in hospital for over 11 days for my op as I got a really bad infection day 3 post op.

I hate the feeling under the arm as I have found to my distress that I could not feel a new bra rubbing me raw, until it was too late!

I have no problems with my arm or strength in it, I was back to mucking out the stables and kennels 3 weeks post mastectomy and I tend to carry water buckets, etc with that arm as I use theother to open doors.

Hope it improves soon for you.
