lost referral

Hello there I am not having a good day today, I have been very tearful at work, I dearly would like this appointment out the way. I called the doctor to find out what has happened, apparently the clinic got the form, and sent it to the appointment department who are denying ever receiving it. after the doctor saying i would be seen within 2 weeks, they are saying it would be 4 weeks. The clinic are very helpful and are trying to sort it all out, but it really isn’t helping me. Sorry panicking here a bit, and hopefully unnecessarily. they do say they normally telephone the appointment through, as I work all day I wonder whether I have missed the call?

Really sorry to hear that - EXACTLY the same thing happened to me when I had my first appointment (have another one tomorrow). It is so stressful just as it is, without having this kind of administrative nonsense to cope with as well.

The first time I went to the clinic, I just got a letter (after chasing because they’d lost the previous fax from the GP). They then, after all that! changed at the last minute to a day when I had a professional exam - absolutely typical. However, when I rang up and complained, they gave me another date with no apparent problems.

So you could try calling the clinic and pointing out that this was not your fault!

Good luck - it’s awful and I completely sympathise. But it really might just turn out OK for us.

I have just had a call from the hospital, who apologised as they admitted had lost my file, they now admit they have a capacity problem and they won’t be able to guarantee to meet the 2 week deadline. they are going to call me as soon as they know any more as they are trying to sort something out. I think I am ok, but it only takes one little knock that sets the whole emotional thing off balance - I am sure I am not the only one that feels this way. Good luck with your appointment, I really hope all works out well

It did go well - I have periductal mastitis probably - whatever it was, the lump was just a big cyst or abscess which they drained, plus antibiotics. So I’ll have an appointment to check that the infection’s cleared up, and I suppose potentially maybe a little op to sort out the ducts if it doens’t - but it’s nothing serious. I really hope that your news is good as well - clare

I am delighted that it all worked out well for you Clare! the more I read of women who write in after the event and say they had the all clear, the happier I feel - that’s fantastic news
