it is for the 18th sept and i have to go in 2pm the day before
why is that? id so rather be at home with my lad
it seems a waste of a night i have to get someone to have him
so if surgery is for a friday will i deffo have to stay in all wk end?
nearer the time i will be asking you all what i need to take lol
i just wondered why i got surgery date even before scan
then today i get a letter thing detailing what we discussed with dr when diagnosed
and it says ive agreed to(i dont remember lol)
wle with axillary surgery with 5% chance of incomplete margin.
dont understand it, is it major?
it says 11 mm max size, provisionally grade 2.the axillary nodes were grossly clear???
i know nothing is definate till scan
thankyou all so much
Hi,
Most hospitals let you go in on morning of surgery, but check with your BCN why they want you in the day before. It maybe if you stay a distance away they thought it might be easier.
I think with a WLE (lumpectomy)there is always a chance they might have to go in again to get clearer margins around the lump. They are saying you have a 5% chance of this.
The axillary surgery will be your nodes.Have they said if they are removing them all or doing a biopsy? If you don’t know then ask your BCN so you are prepared.
Grossly clear means clear as far as they can tell on ultrasound but they need to check them out by removing some or all at surgery.
I had an Op date before I had my MRI too,its just so you don’t have to wait any longer just because you need a nother scan.
Take care, relax and take it one day at a time
Love

thankyou dot
no they havnt said anything about the nodes i will ask next week
i will also ask if i can go in the morning of surgery
im about 35-40 mins away
I’m having a second mastectomy on sept 7th and have just got my admission letter… it says i have to be there at 7.30am… (that is for morning surgery…) would you be able to get there that early after dropping your son off somewhere…?
Last time my surgery was for 1pm and i had to be there by 9am…
Theresa
Things they did once i arrived… booked in and shown a bed, unpacked…
Chat to the bcn check i was well no colds etc etc… surgeon’s registrar came and chatted, checked i knew what was happening, examined my breast and drew on the one to operated on confirming with me it was the right one… Then the anestatist (oops spelt wrong…) came double checked previous health history, whether you have any crowns etc in your mouth…
it probably depends where you are on the list too if your first to be done they may prefer you to be in the night before so you arent held up in traffic.
but it could be that they are going to do your pre-op assessment the day before… that usually consists of things like you medical history, allergies, how many pillows you use, who is at home with you, etc you would normally have bloods checked to make sure you are fit enough for surgery and swabs for mrsa, BP, pulse, sats, height and weight etc… depending on your history they may do an ecg and a chest xray too.
i have had 2 WLEs one on each side plus a further excision of one because the margins werent clear a few weeks later… i had a sentinel node biopsy done at the same time while i was under GA… however some unit do this the day before under LA where they inject the blue dye which shows up which nodes to remove… usually only about 2 or 3 if they are negative… which it sounds like from you path results.
its considered to be minor surgery and you dont usually need a drain in and if you feel well enough can often go home the same day.
as for your childcare it may be negotiable to come in on the day but you do have to consider that you may be unwell after your surgery and need to stay in an extra day or two… i had to do this the last time as i was very unwell with nausea and vomitting.
on the day you would see the surgeon and anaesthetist as Theresa described.
good luck lincs lady hope your surgery goes well.
