Low level infection

Has anyone else had experience of a low level infection due to lymphoedema? I have had one in my hand for about six weeks now. The first lot of antibiotics didn’t get rid of it and my hand and wrist blew up when I went back to wearing my sleeve with hand piece. I am now on my second lot of antibiotics and am wearing the dreaded glove as well as the sleeve. I have been taking the pills for 4 days now and I’m not noticing a difference. Nothing noticeable when you look at my hand but it’s tender and stiff and sometimes hot.

Bit fed up really, especially as I know it’s likely to be doing damage. Almost finding this harder than the cancer as nobody really understands how I feel. I guess it’s all linked to the trauma of having cancer.

Anyway, would love to hear from anyone who has had similar experience (and a hug would be good too).

Hatts have no idea about this but sending you lots of (((HUGS))) J XXX

Thanks norberte and Libby. Where would we be without people to talk to on these forums! I also thought that it was no sleeve when you have an infection but she was worried that the infection wasn’t healing because of the poor flow and also, the antibiotics couldn’t get down to my hand. Let’s hope she is right. I will keep you posted. Thank you so much for the support. It means a lot.

well I think i’m joining this gang now… my hand has been slightly swollen for a week now GP has given me two lots of penicillin, and I’m waiting to hear about appointment in the lymphoedema clinic… gp doesnt think there is infecxtion… just wanting to cover all bases!. All this is cos i managed to put my hand through the plastic lid of 10 litre paint pot!

Interesting to hear you have a similar problem Charlotte. Keep me posted as to what happens. Still no difference with my hand and second lot of antibiotics nearly finished. I wish they could tell for sure whether or not it is an infection. All very frustrating.

just an update… still waiting to see someone at the Lymphoedema clinic… app is next wed!.. hand still as was !
