Lumpectomy August 10th...

Hi

Do make sure you get the exercises & start them. I had 2 WLE last year & no issues but 3 months after rads I now have stiff shoulder as some swelling in my armpit (no surgery or rads to it)so took me by surprise. I wasn’t given or told about these exercises. I have Onc appt end of next week so will be pushing then; to hopefully enable me to sort this stiffness out.

Be careful you don’t pick up anything too heavy for a few days. After my first op a bit sore for a couple of days then fine. Back at work full-time after a week. 2nd op was also ok off for 2 weeks though as a bit more bruised but again take it steady; be kind to yourself; take painkillers when you need them & put your feet up.

Now 9 months after 2nd op & scar already fading and very neat.

Take care
Lynne

Oooh, mine’s tomorrow and clearance.
Will be glad to get this outta the way.

A friend of mine has just had this operation. She has to wait a week for her results. It seems that in some areas you get the results through quickly. Odd

different hospitals have different facilites. The best is where they can inject a radiactive die before the op and then the first thing they do i take the sential node out and send it to be analysed at the same place whilst they are taking the lump out and sewing that up. then as soon as they get the result if its clear they sew up the sential scar, but if its not clear they take some or all of the main nodes up there and then.

some hospitals have the facility to stain the sential node but cannot analyse it there and then so you have to wait to see if its clear and if necessary have another op on the main nodes, so you have to wait for that result

whatever they do with your nodes they still have to send the lump off to the lab to make sure exactly what sort of lump it is and to make sure they got it all out, I think everybody has to wait for that result.
