I just wondering if any one has a slow recovery from left sided lumpectomy. I’m 4 weeks post and still really struggling doing household tasks. I still have to take regular painkillers. I have weakness in the hand on the left side. I’m seeing physio next week but just wondering if this normal or should I do something differently?
I’m doing the exercises 3 times a day and over 10,000 steps a day. I’m lucky I don’t need to have any further treatment.
@footygal21 welcome to the forum, we are all here with love and support.
So sorry you are feeling so uncomfortable, it’s still early days after surgery, I think I would give my breast cancer nurse a call, to let her know how your feeling, maybe you need to get checked out for peace of mind. Some of us heal quicker than others we are all different. You are doing very well with your steps and stretching.
I wish you well, going forward, please let us know how your getting on.
As @Tili has already said it’s still early days. I recently did a wellbeing day with a local support group and a physio gave a talk. She said it can take up to 2 years to fully heal in some cases. I was told to expect it to be 3 months post surgery but then I had chemotherapy and Herceptin so I think the healing delayed a bit. I still have some ongoing issues two years later and was told that could be the best I get. We are all different, some are able to get back to ‘normal’ others it takes longer or we have a ‘new normal’.
Keep doing your exercises, do what you can when you can, don’t be hard on yourself. It’s a big surgery and your body needs time to heal. Sometimes over doing it can delay healing as well.
So sorry you’re struggling and hope you’ll feel better soon! I also had a left-side lumpectomy, back in April this year. I was unable to wear the compression bra; it was terribly painful around my nipple especially. Went for sports bras instead. Now, these months later, I still have niggling pains that of course worry me. My oncologist reminds me that this is really normal. Breasts are complex structures! The pain’s worse in cold/wet weather (and in the night when I feel anxious, but that’s probably psychosomatic). It really does take some time to heal. Wishing you well!
Thank you for your responses. It has really give me some hope. I had physio. It is a game change. She has given me exercises which as helping with my pain already. She was so encouraging too. I feel like I can be so hard myself but it is reall hard with smallife pressure. Sometimes we need give ourselves a break!
Than for your advice.
