Hi
I had a lumpectomy 3 months ago and got an infected seroma which burst the wound open. I needed axillary lymph node clearance which I’ve had 2 weeks ago, the surgeon cleaned out the lumpectomy wound and restitched it loosely and put a pico dressing on. Every time he tightens the stitches it is agony. Is this something that happens or is it just bad luck. New pico dressing on today and the pain is nearly unbearable.
Hi lolo66,
Thank you for your post. It sounds like a difficult time for you. You may find calling us on our helpline to talk through your situation with one of our nurses helpful.
Developing a seroma and/or infection can occur in some people after surgery. It sounds like your treatment team have undertaken appropriate management for this. Seromas are usually absorbed by the body in time. How long this takes does vary for each individual.
The pico dressing you have should help to speed up the recovery process for you. It is important you let your breast care nurse or treatment know of the pain you experience as they can assess and advise on pain management for this.
