I’ve not been diagnosed with secondaries but have had more false alarms than I could count.
Now in the last week I’ve developed really bad back ache in the upper back, am feeling pretty low - definitely not same energy as normal. Does this sound like lung mets because I’m pretty much convinced that it is. Do I need to go to the onc or should I give it some time. Had a blood test and all seems normal.
I think if you are concerned then it’s always best to go back and get checked out and not just a blood test as I’m not sure what that could show that would help with secondaries in lungs. If you’ve got back ache then I’d be more concerned about bone spread than lung mets - not trying to alarm you but it’s obviusly something that is worrying you. Usually they say wait 2 weeks and see if it is still there and see someone but obviously if getting worse then see someone.
Hope you’ve strained yourself or something
Kate
Hi Susie
I would apply the 2 week rule, as Kate says. This allows for a pulled muscle or something and allows you to feel more certain that something is not right.
I too have had a false alarm - 2 years ago I had severe lower back pain and both the onc. and I thought I had mets to lower spine. Turned out to be arthritis!
However, last year I insisted I was sent for more test after Onc. said nothing wrong with sternum - but scans showed mets.
And now have severe pain in rib and sternum area - saw onc. last week at routine appoinment and will have a bone scan tomorrow to confirm/rule this out. Seeing onc. 2 hours after scan and she will have results then.
so, I would say trust your instincts and and see onc. if you want to - we all get false alarms but also genuine problems. It is so difficult knowing which is which and at times I feel so neurotic but so what…
