Lung Mets

Dear All

I am very confused. My scans showed a “lesion” in my lung (same side as my breast cancer) which my oncologist showed me on the screen. It’s very small (around 1cm) and they intend to see if the FEC I am having for my breast cancer shrinks it. I was told by my oncologist that it may not be a spread of the cancer, in fact he said it looked unlikely, but his registrar, who I usually see after my blood test for chemo said that it looks like a spread or even another primary cancer. Is this breast cancer or lung cancer? I have smoked for years, so I guess I’m lucky in that it’s not all over my lungs, but I’m still really confused about what all this means.

Can anyone offer any help or advice? Does this mean my prognosis is really bad? I can’t seem to get any answers.

Hi Cecelia,

What a time for you when you’re getting such different information. Sounds like they are waiting to see if the FEC chemo is going to change the lung lesion, if so that would may indicate to them it is spread from your breast cancer? Not sure if FEC is used for lung cancer so don’t know for sure if reaction to the FEC will def. tell them this but that sounds the plan from what you’ve posted.

You need answers and your medics are the only ones who can tell you. What makes them think it is possibly a new primary, is the lesion different from a breast cancer one? You need to speak with your Onc to get these answers.

Good luck

Thanks Twinkle

It seems like the medics are the only ones who can give me answers. I don’t know what makes them think it’s a primary, but they did say that the FEC would show if it was a cancer - if it was shrinking as the breast tumour is. So presumably FEC works for other primaries or mets.

My you were up early!

Cecelia, I think I would want to know if the lesion is cancer and what cancer. I’m wondering if there is only one lesion on the lung if it is a new primary could it be removed. I would ask for more tests. Funnyface

Hi Funnyface

I think they intend to do another scan and find out if it’s responding to chemo. It’s placed right bang in the middle of my lung and very difficult to operate on apparently.

Grrr, this is just so annoying, it’s such a worry as if it is a tumour I can’t imagine how they’re going to remove it. I’m sure it’s possible though so I intend to ask loads and loads of quesitons until I get a proper answer.
