Lymph Gland Infection

I have posted this on behalf of new user Caroline

Kind regards
Lucy

Hi Everyone,

This is my first discussion so let me take a minute to give you some background.

My Mom was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2004 and had a mastectomy and extensive chemo. 6 months after finishing treatment, she had a reoccurence in the other breast and had that removed followed by radiotherapy. She has been free from cancer for a while but recently discovered a lump in her groin which turns out to be (yes, you’ve guessed it) cancer in the lymph gland.

As with a lot of secondary cancers, she has struggled to find a any advice or support on this and I was wondering if there was anyone out there who had any experience of this typw of secondary cancer?

If so, it would be great to hear from you…

Wishing you all a happy and healthy day - Caroline x

Hi Caroline,

I’m in the same boat as you. My mother was diagnosed with bc 10years ago. She had 18 lymph glands infected at that time. Following chemo and radiotherapy she has had 10 clear years. However recently she complained of pain in her chest. Following a pet scan she had been diagnosed with multiple secondaries in the lymph glands in various sites around the body. She has had an appointment with the onc today. He says that her major organs are clear, however the areas for concern are the stomach, chest and the legs. Apparently, the lymph glands in these areas are infected. Mum has to go to see an orthopaedic surgeon now for a possible hip replacement and her bone in the hip is weakened. I asked the onc about prognosis and he said that the outlook was quite good. If they can strenghten the bones then the other areas they will treat with hormone tabs. If this does not work, then they will consider chemo. I was concerned as i know that the lymph travels around the body and its quite evident from the scan that there is spread all over but the onc said don’t panic, it is treatable, not curable, but a good standard of life can be maintained. He said that it was possible to feel fine and not necessarily know that anything was wrong in this situation. However, I have come out of the appointment feeling a little relieved that the team seem so optimistic and hopeful. Mum asked if she had only 6 months to live and the onc said “not at all, not at all, there is so much we can do”. I agree that there is not much info on this cancer but i think with the right questions aimed at the onc you can sort of get to the bottom of it. I hope that your mother gets some positive news and wish you both well.
