Lymph nodes

Hi I was diagnosed with breast cancer in January this year and have just had my surgery (lumpectomy and node clearance) I am worried about a gland that has swollen under my other arm! I have had this ultra sound checked and they have said there is nothing there, but feeling it there clearly is. Does anybody know if this is normal?

Hi Bexy

I tend to get swollen in that area when my period is due and sometimes this can happen around 2 weeks before my period. Do you think this could have anything to do with it?

hope you get some answers and if you don’t feel reassured, please go back to your doctor until you feel satisfied.

Best wishes

Hi… back in October I too had a lumpectomy and SNB followed by mastectomy. I have also had swelling just where my boob and armpit would have normally met, with it still being tender and numb I don’t feel any pain with it. I think this is quite normal after having lymph nodes tampered with but if you are worried get it checked out all the same.

Sorry to hear that and what a worry for you.
You say the lump is under your unaffected side - am i right? I think I would go back and see your GP or onc and explain your worries. If they could feel a lump then I would ask them to do a biopsy or fine needle aspiration but if they can’t feel it, I’m not sure whatelse you could push for, If it hasn’t gone in 2 weeks then definately go back.
The only other thing that crossed my mind is whether you are actually feeling a rib as it is diffcult to feel the difference betweena rib and a swollen lymph node or at least i find it difficult to tell what’s what.
Just don’t sit and worry, and go back and explain if you can still feel it.
Hope it is all Ok
