One of my friends had some made up in black with red and yellow writing as her medic friends said that would be the most “stand-out” colour if there was an emergency that she couldn’t explain herself not to inject/take blood from the lymphoedema arm. There are quite a few websites where you can get it done in any colour including the ribbon logo - the more you get done - the cheaper they are. So if people wanted to make their own, maybe best to club together? I think they worked out at about £1.50 each and she gave some to me and her other friends.
For me, its a balance between not wanting to make it too obvious and making it obvious enough should I need urgent treatment. It’s a shame that there isn’t some standard band so that any medics would see it and know.
But from some of our experiences, some medics have little to no knowledge of lymphodema which is worrying. I’d love to see more campaigning for lymphodema and lymphodema risk awareness. Elinda x
Thanks for this and voting for the colour. Just spoken to the firm they have the proofs in now and will be putting through the order for lilac as well as some pink.
+Hi all
I’ve never thought about a braclet until Sunday. I was taken into A & E in agony. OH came too and as I muttered under my breath in too much pain to be really communicative, he pointed out to staff not to do bloods or blood pressures or injections on lymph arm. I know I wouldn’t have cared if it had been life or death which arm but it did make me think.
Kidney infection caused pain.
Happy days.
Chinook.
Ouch, wishing you a speedy recovery Chinook. Can just picture me hunting around in my undies drawer looking for the wristband, as ambulance team sit there revving up and asking, Well, Is this an emergency then or what??
Great idea but I dont like anything around my wrists - even the hospital braclets you have to wear annoy me.
