Lymphoedema sleeve

Hello Ladies,  I am a previous poster but due to many different things that happened during the last year I have not been had the opportunity to post, so apologies to all those that were concerned when there was no contact.  It was inconsiderate of me not to let you all know I was still around.

Anyway now further down the line, I am currently in UK visiting and I need a compression sleeve.  My prescribed sleeve for the lymphoedema is giving me problems and I need one as my arm is giving me more gip than normal.  Does anyone know where I can go to a shop, get measured, and order a sleeve while I am here.  Any suggestions appreciated.

Hi featherbird

Good to see you posting on these forums again.  I am sure your fellow forum users will come up with some ideas as to where you can get a lymphoedema sleeve, but you could also give our helpline team a ring and ask them, they’ll be only too happy to help.  Calls are free 0808 800 6000 lines open weekdays 9-5 and Saturdays 10-2.

Take care,

Hi,

I’m not aware of any shops offering this service. I have mine through an NHS lymphoedema specialist nurse who works at our local cancer care centre. I assume that if you have come from abroad the NHS isn’t appropriate. There are private MLD lymphoedema specialists, I don’t know whether if you called one in your area they might be able to help?

You can buy them on line, and there is a guide to measuring for one there. But you would need to know what level of compression you need. My sleeve is made by sigvaris, and is called an advance.

Thank you for replying lakeslover. I hope yours doesnt cause you too much grief. My sleeve was made to neasure but it says ccl2 which i am assuming to be the compression, having said that though, i think uk and spain gave different compression classifications. Have you used any of the online sites. Thanks x

I know this is an old thread, but incase anyone has a similar query.

If you do not have a local NHS Lymphoedema Service or the waiting list is too long for you to wait, you can find private MLD therapists on MLD UK website. www.mlduk.org.uk

You should look for a Therapist who has “DLT” qualifications.  This means they are qualified in Decongestive Lymphatic Therapy and are trained to massage, bandage and measure for compression garments.

Therapists who are registered on the MLD Uk website are fully qualified and attend bi-annual reviews to make sure their knowledge is up to date.   Not all the therapists offer the measuring service but it is worth giving them a call.

Alternatively, if you have a very nice practice nurse at your GP surgery, they might measure you.   Many of the compression garment websites, such as Daylong or Medi, Sigvaris, Activa - have measuring guidelines and I’ve always found them very helpful if I have ever needed advice on which compression garment to choose for my patients.

Hope this is helpful
