Mad as hell

Hi Ladies
Can anyone help me with this. I have been so worried about my results - results have been inconclusive following many tests - until today. I have pagets, with 1.8 mm calcifications behind the nipple. Prognosis could be ‘cure’.
However, I had psyched myself up (I knew myself that this would be the outcome) for a reconstruction. My main fear in all of this is surgery (major) - fainted at the mammogram. Has anyone had reconstruction at the same time as masectomy.
Pagets is nipple based cancer - and a full masectomy to me is pretty full on for something to localised. If the prognosis is ok, why wont she even talk to me about a reconstruction.
I am going to see a plastic surgeon for a second opinion hopefully tomorrow.
I - supposed to be a unniversity hospital, but I have been told that North Tees do actually do more immediate reconstructions.
Anger is far higher than fear at the moment.

Oh lisa Im so sorry. To get that kind of news and have a rude consultant. I think I would have given her a slap. I hope your plastic surgeon is nicer. If I was you I would ask for another consultant she has no right to be rude and offhand with you. Bloody cheek!!!

Hi Lisa,

Sorry you are feeling let down and angry.
I was told at my diagnosis that reconstruction would not be considered until all my treatment had finished due to the chance of it failing with radiotherapy.
I have personally decided not to have reconstruction, i do not wish to put myself through another traumatic op.
I hope you get better answers from the plastic surgeon and wish you all the best with treatment.

Hi Lisa

Sorry to hear about your bad experiences.

I had mastectomy and immediate recon, using back muscle, and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it as an option.

I am very pleased with the result, have just had my nipple done and am off to get it uncovered tomorrow.

Best of luck with the rest of your treatment.

Love Deborah xx

Thanks Girls… I just feel like she spoke to me as if I had no right to ask anything, as if being scolded like a child.
I think her bedside manner needs some polishing.
I can have my masectomy on 1st May - but I am sure as hell not doing anything til I get some answers.

I have started another thread asking if anyone has had any experience with the south or north Tees hospitals, in particular James Cook… I just want to know that I have options.
I cant control what is happening - and to some extent my treatment. For me its a mental block also - I need to have some control, or reasonable discussions.

Hi I had a mastectomy in October 2006 and had my reconstruction in 2007 as I had to have radiotherapy.

I am delighted with my reconstruction and am glad I did not have it at the same time as the mastectomy as it could have been affected by the radiotherapy.

I am so sorry to hear about th eway your consultant treated you.
Let us know how you go - we are all here for you.

hi lisa i had recon and mastectomy together, latisumuss dorsi, boobs look good, just missing nipple.but will get that sorted wen i feel stronger. as far as i am aware the only way rds affects recon is if an implant is used.if all ur own then there is no problem with having rds. i had op in feb and started rds yesterday,so no delay. if u want both at same time u will need to find out if they will be using implant as thats wot causes the problems as rads can make implant hard.
good luck
maria

Hi Maria
