Making your own pockets for bras

Hi, I am having my mx tomorrow and have opted to wait before deciding whether or not to have reconstruction. I enjoy making my own clothes although I am by no means an ‘expert’. Having looked through these threads, I wondered how easy/difficult it would be to sew my own pockets into bought bras. I have found this website which might prove useful to any ladies adept with a needle or sewing machine. Here is the link:

Hi there, as my late mother said:- I can do anything with a needle except sew yet even I have made my own pockets. It works by starting off with a proper post-surgery bra that is a perfect fit, cut out the pocket from the side where you still have a boob and there you go, a pocket to sew into (hopefully) a much cheaper bra. Good luck, Mags xx

Now if I could only find such a bra as you describe, woody, which is ‘a perfect fit’ I wouldn’t bother making pockets, I’d just buy half a dozen of those wonderful bras!

Hi Jennifer,
I pushed the boat out last week and bought 2 post-surgery bras at a specialist shop with the help and advice of the fitting lady, maybe its me whos tight-fisted but I felt robbed when I got 2p change out of £80, as Blanche Hunt said on Coronation street,“even Dick Turpin had the decency to wear a mask”. I asked at the till why M.& S. refunded the VAT at the till but they didnt, she replied that they didnt put it on in the first place, makes me feel theyre making a huge profit on us poor unfortunate folk. Any comments other than "just buy em from M.& S.", the reason I dont is that theyre cut too high in the armpit region.

I think £40 is a bit more than I would want to pay, but if they were a really good fit and comfortable to wear then just remind yourself that ‘you’re worth it’

As for M&S, they keep a hopelessly poor selection of sizes in store and on line, so anyone who isn’t a 32B or a 40GG is wasting their time.

Hi Ladies
I haven’t had MX but since lumpectomy finding comfy bras has been a bit of a trial. I never really know if a bra is going to be ok until I’ve worn it a couple of hours. But by then you can’t take them back so I only buy inexpensive bras. Usually matalan, peacocks or asda. This week while stocking up I discovered that Matalan are now doing Post surgery bras. Not expensive and pretty. The sizes are just the normal range but at least the price is more realistic.
Hope thats helpful.
Happy days
Chinook.

Asda do a comfy, plain post surgery bra in the “plastic bag hanging” section for £6, at that price who cares if VAT on or off, I’m quite a larger lady so was pleased to get my size, very comfy in the immediate post surgery period.

Fine, Pattymi, if they happen to stock your size.

They are as bad as M&S for not keeping a decent selection of sizes either in store or on line.:frowning:

i am a 34J and have had a mx, I get my bras from Beverly at Beautiful Bosoms, its on the net just google them but call Beverly for a chat, they put in pockets and she is a mine of info and can truly fit anyone and anything, Her bras are all normal prices and you get a great range. Beverley really helped me, promise I am not related but owe her a huge debt of gratitude, if she can fit me she can fit anyone. BB is based in KENT but she does mail order and will return anything.
