Male, 32 and going to screening clinic

Hello

I am sorry girls but you have a worried male here and as you know, there is not much out there for men and breast cancer so I am going to post here. Anyway here goes.

In a sort of nutshell, I am male, 32 years old, no breast cancer history in my family, fit, healthy, bla bla. Anyway, about 3 or 4 months ago I noticed a lump in my right breast (well if you want to call it a breast) just above the nipple area. Of course I ignored it but recently it was playing on my mind as I noticed it had grown a bit and I had the odd twinge of pain. So last Thursday (31 July) I went to the GP and she referred me to a breast screeing clinic and I have an appointment on Thursday 21st August, plus I have to have a chest X ray. Now she said she thinks it is nothing (and from  the reading I have done I would be inclined to agree) but this seems quite a fast appointment if she thinks it is nothing and also, men don’t really get referred to breast clinics do they, unless the GP is concerened (the post date from the clinic was 01 August - one day later!!)? Don’t get me wrong I am glad I am being checked out and would rather deal with anything that might be there but this is a bit worrying to say the least. A visit to a breast clinic is something I never would have thought I would be doing but there you go!

Anyway, I read forums at the moment as I have not told anyone about this as I don’t want to cause any undue worry…and er, it’s a bit of a surreal experience for me. Apologies for posting my worrries here but thank you.

Hi Greenwood

You’re very welcome here!

I think it’s great that your GP is doing their job and getting you a fast appointment, believe me, the waiting can be terrible.

I hope it turns out to be nothing and do please ask any questions, everyone is lovely here and very helpful.

Take care.

Mary

Hi there and thanks for your responses. Well, from reading the booklet it seems like I am being seen within the set time frame from being referred by my GP. In a way, I just want the appointment to hurry up and get here so I can find out but I also think it is great that they are sending me to the clinic and not sending me away and telling me it in nothing. I more than half expected to be told it was nothing and to be sent home so you can imagine my surprise when she said she was referring me to the clinic.

Anyway, I shall post back when I find out and in the meantime, I shall try and not worry too much.

Thanks and best wishes

Greenwood
