Mammogram recall after 7 weeks

Hi,

i have received a letter yesterday, 7 weeks after my mammogram giving me an appointment for a further mammogram and ultrasound on my right breast. I have tried to look through this forum for any information but can’t seem to find any posts relating to a recall for one side only. Also why has it taken 7 weeks? Is it because it is non urgent or because my hospital are incompetent, all other info I can find indicates that most women hear about a recall within 2 weeks maximum.

i am worried sick, I have just been through the most traumatic 18 months watching my 47 year old husband fight but eventually die from esophageal cancer. I am still struggling to come to terms with losing him as it has only been 4 months and our children age 14 and 9 need me more than ever now.

i know I’ve got to wait until the scan but I haven’t slept all night, I am just scared for my children, they only have me. I can’t feel any thickening or lumps, my right breast does appear larger but I’m right handed so it probably was larger anyway and I just never really thought about it. My mum’s first breast cancer was picked up on a routine mammogram and there were no outward signs but it was embedded deep inside the breast and she was told it was the size of a satsuma!

This was my 3rd annual mammogram. I started having then at 45 due to family history.

Anyway, any replies would be much appreciated xx

Hi Els,
First of all, so sorry to hear about your husband & you certainly don’t need this anxiety on top.
Unless it’s something to do with staffing & the holiday period, or it has not been classed as urgent, I wouldn’t know why the recall has taken 7 weeks, but, although you need this like a hole in the head, at least it is being checked out. It would be far worse if the recall was missed for any reason.
Mostly recalls turn out to be all ok & obviously something needs a closer look to get it sorted out.
If you want to, do let us know how you get on & best wishes to you & the children.

Hello els19,

I am so sorry to hear about your husband dying. What a time it must have been for all of you, and continues to be.

As Ann says, I know you need this recall like a hole in the head but something has been noticed and it is good that it is being checked out. They are obviously taking extra care of you due to family history.

I could only speculate why it took 7 weeks but you can always ask them at the appointment. I don’t think it unusual that you are being recalled regarding findings on one side.

Wishing you all the best with your appointment, and to you, your kiddies and your mum ? X
