March 2025 chemo starters

Hi all. Just catching up on the thread. Looks like some have had tough weeks. I ended up having a week of chemo as inwas so beaten down and not recovering from viral illnesses. Felt much stronger afterwards and consultant tweaked my Pax doses and reassured me it is fine to miss the week. Had my 1st day of cycle 3 yesterday ( pax/carbo and pembro) and so glad to be ticking them off)

Quick q re hair as i know many of you have cut/ lost/ shaved your hair. I have been cold capping but have lost a lot and have decided to get rid this weekend. Have a wig and scarves sortes. Silly q but those who made the decision to take control themselves did you go to hair dressers or self clipper, cut short or shave your hair. Imagine i will use husbands clippers and will be a bit patchy where there is still growth?

I get given my anti emetic as i arrive before they cannulate and give Pax. Then advised to have some before bed and ise as needed. Luckily have been ok with that regime and not needed any extra so far (touch wood)

Brilliant result with the cold cap. Makes it all worth while. Ive done 7 weeks and now feel its time to bite the bullet as ive lost so much hair and am very bald on top. Glad i tried it though. Got a wig and scarves at the ready!

I bought the suzzipads from Amazon Ā£30 for when I start pac. I don’t start for another 4 weeks as last EC next week. So I’ll be following on behind you and be grateful of any tips along the way. You’re doing great! Xx

Hi we use clippers on a number 4. It is upsetting but you will feel so much better after and not have the fear of it coming out x

Thanks. I feel it is time now. Will be strange but i guess it is part of this process. Looking forward to not having the anxiety every morning of what is going to come out and how i can best disguise it. Been wearing a cap for a while now anyway.

Honestly it sounds strange but you’ll feel so much better and feel like you’re actually in control. No one wants to shave their hair but get lots of hats, scarves or a wig and you’ll be fine. I’m wearing a wig all of the time and wear a sleep hat to bed x

Ive got myself a wig which looks really good under a hat. May have to build up to just wearing it on its own. Have some scarves too. Feel grateful that ive had some time to come to terms with it and now am ready. Thanks for the message of support

Also try putting sunglasses on top of your head when wearing a wig, it makes a difference x

I agree re wearing sunglasses or reading glasses on top of wig as it does seem to make it look more natural. I’ve also used little clips or Kirby’s to hold bits up and again it just gives it a more natural/messy look which is much more realistic for me.

With regards to shaving your head… My hubby did mine for me when I was really low about how much was coming out whenever hair was washed, brushed or touched. He went in with clippers at No1 but in the end he went over my whole head with a foil razer. It’s really short but I actually quite like it and the relief was amazing. Good luck x

I’m almost tempted to ask to stay on EC because I’ve not been to bad on it lol. 2nd night of being awake at 3am, had realy flushed, burning hot face for 2 days, plus swollen ankles, (spotted on red card but I’ve elevated feet and its gone down within 10 min. Hope your last one is kinder for you xx

Thank you, hope youre ok. I had the red face think it’s from the steroids or injections. Which drug will you be moving into? X

Defiantly from steroids, taper off today and tomorrow, jabs start tonight :frowning: I’ll be on 9 pac, 3 carbo

Those blinkin jabs aren’t nice! My oncologist said I wont have them on weekly pac so I’ve got 7 of them to do on the last ec cycle! I’ll be glad to see the back of them, although they’re doing a good job x

Yes Weekly with 3 weekly carbo, yes it will be good ridence to the jabs but like you say they are doing their job, my levels have all been stable so far, how about yours (bloods)

Yes mine have all been stable. I’ve been into the same day unit twice where I haven’t felt well but both times my bloods have been ok. I’m dreading EC3 on Tuesday but it’s nice knowing it’s my last one, and on a reduced dose. We will be crossing the finishing line before we know it. My last pac is first week in August so feels a while yet!

Well we went for it and shaved my head and for those that said i would feel relieved i really do. No more worrying in the shower or when i brush my hair how much will come out. Its taken a weight off.

I have 4 more weeks on Pac and Carbo. The weeks ive had both knock me a little more and i feel pretty wiped out. The in between weeks with the pac hasnt been as bad. No real big side effects other than tiredness. Get the red burning face the day after but again this could be the steroids. I have had weekly injections throughout it though. Going to EC in june time. Bit nervous as it seems to be quite vicious.

Just gratelful to be ticking each week of at the moment.

Good luck this week everyone x
