March 2026 chemo starters

Hey @big welcome to the thread none of us wish we had to be in :two_hearts:

A school friend of mine has just finished chemo for TNBC and has smashed it, she’s onto surgery next. Is there any threads on here specifically for TNBC? Maybe look at starting a TNBC chemo thread if there isn’t one?

The road ahead always feels like a mountain before we start doesn’t it! How many EC plus B will you be having? I had my 1st EC yesterday and other than being wide awake since 2am this morning (think it’s the steroid buzz :joy:) it was all very chilled and uneventful for me!

Not long until you can get cracking with it now and tick off that 1st one :two_hearts: sending lots of love and keep us posted xxxxxx

Thanks @jululemon! :two_hearts: Yeah the Nurse said just take them as you need them and I was just like no exactly when can I take them and I’ll start then :joy: glad it’s not been too bad for you so far! I’ve been awake since 2am think it’s the steroid buzz :joy: but I did have a nap at 5pm yesterday then was fast asleep by 9pm! Xx

So glad it’s ok so far except the sleep!

I was the same to the nurse - had seen my oncologist before and her advice was very much stay ahead of sickness prevention so I am following that and so far it has helped a lot. I had some little naps yesterday on day 1 post EC then had the injection.

I was sleeping well last night until my nearly 4yo randomly woke at 0130 and that was game over - I was awake until 5am! Will try to have a restful day.

Hope you can rest up today xxx

Sounds like we are going to need some night owl activities! I don’t want to lay in bed for hours awake. Id rather get up and do something quiet downstairs, have a quiet cuppa to myself. Sounds quite nice actually

@foxgem @katie91 glad your first infusions went well. Just catching up with the thread. Have spent this week trying to do all my pre-chemo admin. I have my heart scan today, and a tooth removal (JOY!). I am embracing 2026 as my toothless kick arse bald pirate cancer era. However I am glad I was able to get the dentist to sort the tooth pre chemo-kick off. The tomorrow is a flu jab. Life bowls on as exciting as ever :joy:

Yes I’d much rather stop any nausea before it starts and so far so good so I’ll be keeping up with the meds for sure!! I was awake until 6.30an but then fell asleep until 8.30am. My husband booked today off as we’ve got a poorly 2 year old who was in our bed last night (not too worried about the germs as I think she has the cold that I started with a couple of days ago)! And a 5 year old whose in school. Sounds like you had a rough night too!! Do you have somebody with you or is your little one in school today so you can rest for abit?

How are you feeling today?

I’ve pottered around the house for abit and I’m back in bed chilling with a brew, I’m normally non stop so it’s actually quite nice to be going abit slower!!

Hope you’re OK today xx

@joodles just a casual tooth extraction… but such a good shout to get that sorted pre-chemo! I have a very dodgy crown I’m worried about. Just hoping it behaves for the next 4 months. Hope it isn’t too sore!

@katie91 poorly 2yo is Sod’s Law! Hope that the bug passes quickly. My little one was off nursery Friday with a sickness bug. Perfect timing… I am feeling ok again today so far! Tomorrow is last day of the main sickness meds (have others to take as needed but the main regime stops) so hoping it’s not too much of a crash. I’m also a busy person usually so a slightly slower pace is nice but I expect that novelty will wear off. Luckily my husband’s employer has been lovely and given him some paid time off work to support me which has been so helpful.

@foxgem are you still on for 10th?

@big hope you’re doing ok. I was just put in touch with a friend of a friend with an aggressive subtype of TNBC and she’s 8 months in and things are going well! I have found reaching out to others with similar experiences is so helpful. It has made me feel less alone. There are so many incredible stories out there too about people defying stats which can be scary (and are based on older science and older treatment).

Sending love to all xxx

Still booked in for the 9th march  Got my picc line being installed tomorrow and my pixie hair cut. Not sure which one I’m dreading more

Sounds like you are off to a good start

@jululemon - re tooth - it’s a failed crown that I don’t think will behave when my immune system is tanked by chemo. I had to wait for a late Feb appointment with a specialist dentist after a Nov referral only for him to go ā€œthe tooth you’ve been referred for is fine and your normal dentist can take the next door one with a proper failed crown outā€. So could have been done in Nov:woman_facepalming:t3:
@foxgem @katie91 - hope you’re feeling better and manage to grab some rest today. I maintain your children always sense your weakness or if you’ve had a glass of wine/G&T and then mount some illness offensive. It’s a conspiracy they are all in on it!

@joodles you are absolutely right, our kids are 100% out to get us… Especially girls :joy:
Feeling great this afternoon managed a couple of hours sleep and lots of rest today, I sense I’ve still got the steroid buzz… Just waiting for the complete bus crash now :eyes: xx

Thank you! It’s far from what I had in my head it would be like. I had the cold cap on for 30 minutes before chemo, got the cannula in and then the nurse syringed the EC in and told me to tell him if I felt woozy/dizzy etc or anything and he would slow down. That took about 25 mins but we were just sat chatting so went really quick, then 90 minutes afterwards with the cold cap on and read some of my book, did abit of work on my phone (self employed life :+1::roll_eyes:) and chatted to the nurses. They made me a brew and bought biscuits round. Was like a weird little day out :joy:

Me and my 2 year old have been full of a bug so I’ve got abit of that mixed in too and I honestly feel OK today despite the bug and 2 year old in our bed and me being awake from 2-6.30am , rested this morning, then went out for a walk for about 45 mins, pottered around doing a little tidying and just chilling now with my youngest having cuddles.

Without the coldcap though its very quick!! You’ll be absolutely fine :two_hearts: let us know how you get on on Friday. Xx

Little day 3 update following 1st EC… I slept like a log last night (9pm-6am) after being up from 2-6.30am the night before being wired off the steroids :joy: so feel quite well rested today! Woke up with a slight nauseous feeling so took an anti sickness straight away and that’s gone now, just abit of constipation and bloating. Hope the rest of today stays like this!!

Going to drop my eldest daughter off at school and then nip to a little playgroup with my youngest daughter (Onc said small playgrouos are OK just use caution around anybody obviously poorly!).

Hope you’re all doing OK

Great news! I’m so glad you got a good sleep. I had a wired night again but I’m still feeling ok. What anti sickness have you got? I take 4 x dexamethasone per day and 2 x domperidone. From tomorrow I don’t have the dexamethasone. But they’ve been amazing so far and I’ve felt really hungry which has been reassuring. I think it’ll be bad from tomorrow from what I’ve read but I relieved the first few days have been okish (and the sun is out). xx
