marina coil

hi anyone out there have the marina coil, have had double mx am having 6xfec , but was wondering if i should have the coil removed as chemo has brought menopause on early i also dont have any periods as coil stopped them xx josie1

Hi Josie,

If your BC was hormone positive, I definitely would. Even if it wasn’t it’s giving you drugs you don’t need.

Hi Josie,

I was told by my breast surgeon upon diagnosis to have my mirena removed as I max’d the ER+/PR+ scores. I have seen elsewhere on this website that others in the same position have been told it is okay to keep theirs.

Maybe a call to your BCN would put your mind at rest one way or another?

Good luck

Sx

I was told to have mine removed.I am strongly hormone positive and though its very low dose it is still giving out progesterone. For the record I replaced it with an ordinary one but still no periods because of the tamoxifen… result!

I got my mirena coil inserted after diagnosis of ER+ BC it was fab… My oncologist, breast surgeon and gynaecologist were all happy for me to have it… There is new research which shows it helps reduce tamoxifen side effects if you have it inserted after diagnosis and isn’t increase the risk of breast cancer or recurrence… But speak to your team as they shoud be up to date with research on this for people with a mirena in at diagnosis.

HI ladys thankyou so much will speak to my onc and ask her what to do as have mixed feelings on this .
thanks josiexx

Hello

My Mirena coil had been in for nearly three years at the time of diagnosis and I’ve been allowed by my oncologist to keep it.
I’m very relieved as I’m sure it’s helping to ease my menopausal symptoms. (I’m 50)
I’m ER negative so the progesterone aspect isn’t an issue for me but please do speak to your onc for further info and reassurance.
