MASITIS

Hi there,

A couple of months ago my right breast became sore and tender. I then noticed a lump follwed by a hard mass accross the top half of my breast. The pain and tenderness was far more severe than normal and didn’t really subside after my period. My GP prescribed antibiotics for masitis and has since referred me to the breast clinic which I’m to attend tomorrow.

The pain and the hardness have both gone now although I can now feel a pea sized hard lump in the same area. I’m feeling a slightly paranoid about my right breast as the nipple area appears to be larger than my other nipple and looks slightly bruised but I’m not sure if this is new. I do still get pain but it’s not constant just more like short stabbing pains that last seconds.

I’ve had cysts removed in both breasts twice over the last 3 years, the first being the size of a grape, bloody fluid.

Do I mention all my symptoms/paranoia to the consultant even though things appear to have cleared up or do I let him decide for himself if things look/feel right?

Thanks
Nala

Hi Nala, I think you should tell the Consultant your worries just to put your mind at rest. The Consultant will examine you anyway and I’m sure they are used to most patients being worried and slightly paraoid. It is natural for your mind to start imaging all sorts of things! A friend told me to write down any questions and take a notepad to clinic - most people forget to ask questions in clinic and don’t remember them til they get home. I was so stressed I couldn’t even remember my date of birth!

I hope everything goes ok for you. I have found this forum so helpful and everyone understands what you are going through and give wonderful support.

Good luck in clinic.
