Hi ladies, this is my first post, so I hope I am in the right place. I had a mx 6 wks ago and my scar is horrible. Really ugly. Its hard, puckered and pleated like a badly made evening purse (its the same shape as well!) I was very positive about everything before the op, but now my confidence is disappearing. Will I ever be flat? Or am I stuck like this for good? Help!
Hi, I know it is really miserable and depressing looking at an ugly scar but 6 weeks is still early days. Personally I would recommend you try massaging in bio oil several times a day or try stuff called ‘Kelo-cote’ which is a formulated scar gel. It is expensive but it’s good stuff and I’ve found it to be very effective.
Hope that helps a bit.

Hi
After my MX I expected to be flat but I’m not, there is still a certain amount of flesh which has left me with lumpy bits - my BCN commented they only take the breast tissue not the fat!She was being light hearted at the time but the comment stuck. I did massage the scar regularly with either bio oil or E45 and the scar itself has softened up and faded. Persevere it is still early days for you. My surgeon has recently offered to do what I think he called a scar resection if I was very unhappy but I baulk at the thought of further surgery. PM me if I can help

HI
I had my MX 2 weeks ago so still early days for me but my surgeon also left fat & assured me it wasn’t breast. I had been told I’d be flat so was surprised. I think maybe they do that to make it more comfortable for wearing prosthesis perhaps. I also found that I am able to wear slightly lower tops than I thought as there is a bit of flesh there rather than completely flat. I also have hard bits to the side which I asked about today at my follow up & he called it “fatty necrosis” which my husband commented afterwards sound like a charachter from a boys own annual - very helpful. I think that’s just where the trauma of surgery affects the fatty tissue & it goes hard. anyway he did say it would soften but could take up to 6 months so I think maybe just time will heal it & improve the look. plus some bio oil too which I intend to try once I am able.
Not sure if that has helped??? Jo XXXXXXXXXXXXX
Just to let you know that I’m nine months down the road from my mx in Feb 2010 and as recent as one month ago my scar/chest area was changing…
Obviously the majority of healing changes occur at the beginning but I thought mine was ok when it really did become flatter!
I hope it will become flatter still but thought I’d let you know that time really does affect the overall appearance.
Not sure whether there will be any more changes but I see onc in two weeks so will ask then…
It is very frightening to recognise your own body at the beginning but I can assure you it does change and keep changing…
Take heart that the ‘ugliness’ you see now will not be for ever.
Good luck!
Thanks for all the replies, my you are quick! I feel a lot better now, I dont feel so alone. I will certainly try the bio-oil, and massage like mad! Thanks again, much appreciated.
Marita.
