Mastectomy with full axillary clearance

Hi all,
Had appointment with surgeon today,i’m having a mastectomy with full axillary clearance.Hope this is’nt a stupid question but does the surgical margin still apply when having a mx. Lesleyx

I don’t believe so. After a mastectomy with clearance, pathologists analyze whether there are cancer cells in the lymphnodes and if so how many are affected. They will also look at the size of the tumor and the type of the cells in it. Based on these things, they will decide on further therapy.

I had mx with full anc clearance back in August & was told that I had clear margins when I went back for my biopsy results.

The type & grade were also confirmed as well as advising of lymph node involvement.

Both my surgeon & onc have since referred to the clear margins obtained at subsequent appointments.
