Hi! I had my unilateral mastectomy with reconstruction performed 2 months ago and I am in the middle of chemo and yesterday I started to see that my reconstructed breast was red and hot. Apparently it is mastitis, anyone has experienced with this? I am currently on antibiotics.

Hiya, didn’t want to read and run. I had DIEP reconstruction in February this year and one month later was still very uncomfortable, swollen and weepy. When the plastic surgeon saw it she new straight away that it was the blood supply which was a problem and not an infection. Unfortunately the tissue was dead and I ended up losing the reconstructed breast.
I really hope your situation is treated with the ABs and you’re on the mend soon. Keep insisting on having the wound checked to make sure it’s healing properly.

Dear Tativ, so sorry you have been through so much, with your breast cancer and treatment.
I completely agree with fucb, keep checking yourself and speaking with your team, as you need to get this under control, please to read you have antibiotics, unfortunately I also lost my implant to an infection.
