Mastopathy

Mastopathy

Mastopathy Hi everyone,

Wondering if you can help… I have been diagnosed with mastopathy, but really haven’t got a clue what it is. (I am English, but living in Japan at the moment, and not understanding the Japanese medical terms is frightening. I keep hearing ‘don’t worry’, but of course when I don’t understand exactly what the doctor is telling me, I can’t help it.)

If anyone could let me now what exactly this is, and if it is a type of cancer, (or leads to cancer) I would be so grateful (then I can get myself home to an English hospital ASAP).

Thank you, looking forward to hearing something.

Hi Shimpai, can’t help you with that, but try “ask the nurse email service” that may shed more light on it for you, please try not to worry too much, i know mastopathy means any disease of the breast, so it could be anything or nothing, really they should have explained in what context it means relating to yourself.

hugs and love

Alison

Dear shimpai Here is the link to the ‘Ask the Nurse’ email service as suggested to you by Alison. You can email your query to our team of nurses who will be able to help to understand more about this condition:

Hope this helps.

Hi shimpai

‘Mastopathy’ is just a general term for any disease of the breast (mast = breast; opathy = disease of), although it is generally used with reference to benign breast conditions.

If I were you I would be pushing for an actual diagnosis and possibly more tests. What have you had done so far? The only way to rule out anything malignant is by biopsy.

If you have had all the necessary tests and all they have managed to come up with is mastopathy then it sounds like they are saying “you definitely don’t have cancer but we aren’t sure exactly what the problem is.”

Benign breast conditions don’t turn cancerous although some (such as fibroadenomas) MAY suggest a slightly increased risk so, if anything, I would just be more vigilant about self-breast examinations.

Hope that helps.
