May 2026 chemo starters

GLad you were picked up before it hit lower, mine came back as 73 after round 4 and I ended up needed ing transfussions before I was fit enough for round five. I thought it was just ‘chemo tired’ and did not realise how bloody awful I really felt till 48 hours after a serious amount of top ups.

have a look at adding wheatabix or Special k into your diet with a glass of orange juice (if you can) as they are the two cereals that have the highest amount of added iron and meet 29 to 30% of your daily iron needs. Look at anemia diets in the UK for ideas of what to try and eat to keep your iron up. add as much heam rich foods as you can which tends to be red meats and add as much rich dark green leafy veg as you can face eating. getting as much as you can this way tastes so much nicer than daily supplements and so far whilst my Hb level has dipped Ìt has not hit super scary again.

IF the foods recommended for anaemia diets are simply not possible thanks to Chemotheraphy effects on your digestive tract and taste buds let your oncologist know before your next chemo. they may be able to prescribe a supplement you can take, refer you to a dietician for advice of what to try from what you can face. remember if chemo gets delayed due to low Hb its NOT your fault, it’s a side effects of the ruddy chemo drugs impacting your body.
