Thanks Lola. That’s reassuring then - medical advice differs no matter who you ask but the general consensus seems to be 38+ I will stick to that. Do you have the wbc boosting injections and what happened when you were neutropenic?

Hi Dodo, I was neutropenic on cycle 1. I was feeling well in myself, normal really. Temperature kept rising and when it spiked at 38 I rang in to the chemo unit. I was told to get there ASAP. 45 minutes later I was in the chemo unit having my bloods taken. They were neutropenic. 0.1 neuts and everything else low aswell. The nurse rang the hospital to get me admitted, and meanwhile I was given an IV anti-biotic infusion for half an hour. I then went to the Medical Assessment Unit at the hospital and was there for 3 nights having IV anti-bios every few hours. I never once felt ill. My temp dropped to the 36’s before i even got to the hospital but they wouldn’t let me home till my bloods increased enough. They did all the tests but never found an infection. I’m certain there never was one.

Next cycle I was given the Neulasta jab for white blood cell boosting - this is the single jab taken the day after chemo. So far so good, they seem to be working.

Glad I am having jabs then and that you are now. Hope they are enough to keep us well. Weird that you never felt ill though?
Thanks for all your support Lola - you are a star.

Fingers crossed. xxx

How many pint glasses do i need to drink tomorrow and then on the day and thereafter please. I am quite good at drinking, normally cider - stop laughing, I am an agricultural type remember. I just want to ensure I have given myself every chance of ridding myself of the poison asap.

help anyone !!

I am still on antibiotics for mastitis and since then suffering trots every time I eat a thing, consequently I am very sore now with piles etc - dont really know what to do, if anything, is this normal and just a typical side effect? sorry for being very specific
the chemo ward staff are only around til 5pm then you have to get admitted by medical assessment unit which was really long winded last time so dont want to waste anyones time by them saying just get on with it, I havent as yet taken any immodium etc but now wonder if I should do,

Hi Karen, sorry you’re not well, I think i’d take Imodium tonight and then ring in the morning if no better, make sure you drink lots to keep hydrated. I had piles last time as well, never had them before and ouch they hurt! got cream from my gp which did the trick after a few sore days. Hope you feel better tomorrow xxx

Thanks Moonbeams for answering my queries from this morning!

Wishing you all a Good nights sleep

Karen have you got any zinc and castor oil cream at yours? Most pile ointments are just that with some analgesic added. Sorry you’re not well. When I got to this state on abx after Xmas I was able to eat live yogurt and I got well. Of course, live yogurt is now out of the question for us.
Ann they tell you to drink 2-3 litres of fluid including tea and coffee. So 3 pint glasses of water would be a good way to start. I’ve got one of those clever plastic bottles with a non-spill top and I fill it up and take it everywhere even to bed. I reckon 3 of those (they hold about 800 ml) plus cups of tea and coffee (I’m very partial to Pukka Ginger tea at the moment) and I am sorted. Its hard to keep this up when you don’t feel like eating, though. I found I had to add a pinch of salt and a tsp of sugar to mine which is what they recommmend for rehydration after diarrhoea.
Lola I am fascinated by your neutropenia story- thanks, it makes me doubly cautious taking my temp twice daily and not in the ear that was next to the pillow. It’s still sore.

thanks for your help ladies, I have taken some imodium with the instruction that if no better tomorrow morning to phone the ward, I just can not seem to keep anything in but I blame the antibiotics
I am drinking lots and lots, I too fill up a container in the fridge and work my way through it, I have taken to liking barley water juices
at what point is ths neutropenia bit (is that the stage when levels go down?)
hopefully I will get some sleep tonight, I was up til 3am last night, no fun :frowning:

Karen the neutropenia bit seems to be days 7 to 14. yes it’s when your white blood cell count takes a nosedive.

Morning moonbeams,
Karen, hope you are feeling better this morning
Just to say I was neutropenic during cycle 1 as well, felt absolutely fine, no temperature, was working and going out and about etc. Didn’t know until they did pre chemo bloods for no 2 and was completley thrown by it. They gave me 2 booster injections and this increased the counts and I’m having booster injections every day this week. Just wanted to let people know that it can happen without you knowing so you don’t worry about it too much and if it happens to you you won’t be as shocked as I was!

A question for you lovely ladies. I’m day 7 now, I was told to take Metoclopromide anti sickness for 5 days and the nurse gave me 2 x days additional if I needed it. I lowered my dose to one tablet yesterday (day 5 of taking them) as was feeling ok but this morning still have that ‘morning sickness’ feeling and not sure whether to take any or not? I’d definitely survive without but feeling really wiped out already today and wonder if I’m just being stupid not taking them if I’ve got them?? What do you think has anyone else taken anti sickness for longer than 5 days?
x

Hi Aly - I haven’t taken any tablets post day 5 so far. I have a slight feeling of nausea sometimes but nothing terrible. I am trying to reduce my medicine intake as much as possible right now.
The injections seem to work well in boosting the wbc and avoiding possible neutropenia - Karen are you having them?
Day 8 and have felt much more tired last couple of days - good sign that red (and therefore white) bc down to lowest right now.
Have a good day ladies.

I’m only given 3 days of tablets…I do wish there was some consistency! Grrrrr!

Zuzy - I have 3 days worth of the steroids and the omdanestron but 5 days of the domperidone. Do you get all 3 tablets?

Hi Dodo, yes have same, all say take for 3 days (the Domperidone just as needed so I think they assume will last for longer but I’ve just been taking it!!) it’s doing the job so I guess not worth worrying about, there’s enough other stuff to fret about!

What do all these drugs actually do ? I am far too fat already and steriods are not going to help.

Ann 3 days of steroids won’t make that much difference. I have lost weight not gained so far as no appetite/taste buds. They stop the sickness so are worth it.

March13, the steroids you take you don’t take long enough to make a difference to your weight I take steroids all the time so I am very overweight but at the moment that is the least of my worries I know it doesn’t help but I can’t be worrying about what I should and shouldn’t be eating for weight control.
I was a size 26 7 years ago I had got down to a 20 but am back up to a 22 which I hate but I will lose it when chemo has finished and I can get my head back in that zone.
You just need to deal with one thing at a time
