may starter : stranger in a strange place

into the third week since starting, had the misfortune of a riotously awful reaction to steroid and some upset tummy but otherwise all as expected : almost on cue fatigue set in, appetite not great so eating well where possible, sleeplessness has been an issue. Boredom, cabin fever and general annoyance as well.

I felt that there is a difference between hair loss and deciding to lose the hair, so went for a very short not quite bald cut, along with a number of hats and scarf combos… I will add a wig, just for the maximum number of alternatives!

You can be too tough, too practical, I think, not always saying ‘right, I just need to get on with this’ - because there’s a reaction and there is not a lot of time to acclimatise… and taking care of families’ and friends’ reactions while making your own decisions, that’s not easy either. This is all new ground, and standard reactions just dont cut it.

It’s a new world, that’s for sure, and the most difficult thing is not being or feeling defined by all of this.  But, this is allegedly the good week before getting back into it all next week, let’s make the most of it - all best thoughts and wishes to everyone in the same situation. Please do take the very best care of yourself in every way.

Hi maggie,

I’m sorry to hear about your symptoms, but thank you so much for your post as it’s very encouraging. I’m sure other users will be along to share their experiences and show support soon.

Best wishes,

Bonita

Hi Maggie welcome to the forum where you will find support and encouragement from other ladies. I strongly recommend that you join the May 17 thread as all these ladies will be at the same stage as you and you can go through the ups and downs together. I am from the April 14 thread and still 5 of us communicate regularly and we are planning our 3rd meet up!
Regarding the hair issue, you are correct it is up to the individual. I went for a short cut and then went through the fall! I had a wig but only wore it occasionally. I prefered a bandana or hard scarf.
Please do join the May ladies!
