Meeting with consultant, what to expect

Hi.
I have an appointment with a consultant on Monday to discuss the next steps. I am assuming my treatment plan. I have already been told the results of the biopsy show grade3 lobular cancer. I have had this appointment brought forward, I was told it was changed because I might “breach”. I clarified that this was a timetable issue and not as a consequence of my test results. I don’t know what to expect from the meeting. I understand that I will get the results of the mri and ct scan but will I get a treatment plan at this meeting? Will I be able to really discuss the options or will a decision have been made, or will it be a recommendation? How soon after this appointment will I have surgery, I accept I need some surgery. Will I be rushed so that I don’t" breach" or will I be given time to consider all options/aspects. I feel very out of control and have had a number of negative experiences within this process where I have felt things were done too me rather than been given real information and consideration. Just writing this down is helping me get my head around what is happening. Sharing with someone who understands from a personal experience would help even more. Thanks

Hello Jan

The only advice I can offer for your meeting with the Consultant is to write a list of all your questions in advance so that you can get a clear picture of what treatmen is being planned, and write down the answers. I found that because I was so worried I got home and thought of something else I should have asked. It also helps if you can have a friend/relative with you at the consultation who may pick up on something you’ve missed. I remember that I was so on edge I felt I was in a complete haze. Wishing you all the best.

Thanks Poppj. My husband is going with me. It is so right you miss stuff he told me things that were explained at the last meeting which I had no recollection of. It is a good idea to write questions down. I will do that. Thanks again for your support.
