Mental Health coping with Fear and Anxiety

So sorry you are feeling like this @beyond . I’m also a Nurse and you would think it would make things easier but sometimes it isn’t good because you know of everything that might possibly go wrong however remote. You might benefit from doing a Moving Forwards Course - ask your BCN or look into it on the main site here .

As for being positive - well if people can be then good for them but I can remember snapping at my friend when she told me to think positive - you feel how you feel and it takes time to put yourself back together mentally and adjust to physical symptoms as well after what you have been through. If you had been in a car crash instead of having cancer would you be putting pressure on yourself or feeling pressure from others to think positive and snap back to normal ? Somehow I doubt it.

It will take time to work through your anxiety meanwhile make sure that your clinical team know about your symptoms in case there are treatment options . Xx

Hiya lisa - the doctor has given me mitrazapine 30mg which helped with anxiety but still feeling depressed and was really shattered in a morning. How long do you think it took for it to improve your symptoms and did it make you sleepy? Thanks

I had a similar experience with anxiety after losing a close family member, and I was also prescribed medication. When I was diagnosed with a health issue last year, I was terrified. I felt like I couldn’t breathe, but the meds helped me stay calm enough to process everything. I also saw a psychiatrist nyc, who worked with me to manage the anxiety alongside the physical health challenges. It really helped me feel like I wasn’t alone in the fight. I admire your strength, and it’s so important to find what works for you.

Have you ever tried medical cannabis? For me, medical cannabis is an effective alternative in managing anxiety and stress, especially during difficult times like cancer treatments. I’m subscribed to Alternaleaf, a clinic that always helps me with treatments and guides me through the process. If anyone lives in the UK, check out the user Alternaleaf reviews to learn more about how it can support your health.

Hi marymop,
I didn’t get any side effects. I think it was a couple of weeks before noticing any difference and maybe another 1-2 weeks before I felt really stable on them.
It was a while back though, so I might not be quite remembering the timelines (but definitely no side effects, I’d remember those!)
Hope this helps,
Lisa x

So many people think they’ve failed if put on medication for anxiety, my view is take it. If it helps you to stay positive what harm can it do. Nothing worse than crying every day thinking you life is over, we can only be so brave without help x

It looks as though my post may have offended you somehow for which I’m sorry but I don’t think I ever said that it’s bad to be on medication . I’m actually lucky in that for me the main side effect of my blood pressure tablet is that it makes me sleepy and despite in the last few years the death of both my parents and having cancer amongst other things with a very few exceptions I’ve slept like a log - I’m sure at least as well as if I was on medication to help me sleep. I certainly had my low points but I also felt more alive ( still do) than before my diagnosis and found some joy in every day even if later that same day I felt low . The good times I experienced during the whole BC process were not as many as I would have liked but they are really vivid in my memory now whereas the bad stuff though there was more of it has faded a bit.

I do have an issue with enforced positivity though . I don’t see why people should be made to feel that they are in some way wrong if they aren’t feeling positive . Sorry if I end up offending you again X

Oh no, sounded like i was offended but definitely wasn’t. Just thought you were feeling down and meant no harm taking happy pills if there offered xx

I was thinking about how I had felt in the past - wasn’t feeling down myself . It’s so easy to put your thoughts down and realise they might be saying something slightly different - I’ve done it myself . Not to mention the dangers of predictive text . Hope you are having a good day today @jane8 - mine has been a bit mixed but the sun is still out and had a good chat with a friend so feeling pretty good myself now. Xx
