Message for Anthi and Cherub
Message for Anthi and Cherub Thank you for your replies. I will certainly ask the onc about Protium and Omaprazole when I next see him. I want to be prepared next time.
Anthi, can you buy Immodium over the counter and take it when needed?
I know this sounds disgusting and I don’t mean to offend but I’ve never had bowel problems and don’t really know what things should or shouldn’t look like but I’ve noticed alot more mucousy type stuff. Is this another side effect of Taxotere?
Hope everything is well with you both.
Love

Hello Jibby
I hope you’re feeling a bit better today.
Yes you can buy Immodium over the counter. It’s primarily for diarrhoea but it did help me when I had the post Taxotere pain. I think you are meant to take not more than 4 a day but just two doses sorted me out.
Your GP would probably prescribe Pantoprazole or Omaprazole for you if you saw him. As I understand it these drugs are in a group called ‘proton pump inhibitors’ which reduce the production of stomach acid and so help these type of problems.
Not sure about the mucus - it sounds as if your guts are quite disturbed after the Taxotere.
I also bought some Aloe Vera Stomach Soothing Action juice - from the health shop - in preparation for my second Tax. I have also taken/eaten papaya fruit for years which is a great help with stomach and gut pains. Fresh papaya is good if you can get it or otherwise crystallized papaya. It has a soothing effect on the stomach and gut. Be careful though as too much can give you diarrhoea .
I’m doing fine thank you. I finished chemo on 1st May and have started Herceptin. I’m also halfway through radiotherapy and am doing reasonably well although my breast is quite pink and I have a bad attack of prickly heat just above my breast. I’m putting on loads of aqueous cream at the moment and wearing little cotton vests - no bra -in the house. The doctor told me not to wear anything at all on my top half while I was at home but that’s quite difficult to do - I live in a flat and the neighbours might see !
Love Anthi
Hi Jibby,
Like you, I never had bowel problems before going on chemo. I watch my diet and have always had plenty of fruit and veg, so I usually went twice a day and was as regular as clockwork. In my case the problem has mostly been with constipation (sometimes lasting 5-6 days) and I have been getting through Senokot and lactulose like nobody’s business! I find constipation makes me feel very unwell as it adds to the levels of fatigue I have suffered, esp on Taxotere.
Last Taxotere next Wednesday, so good riddance to that as I have been so under the weather on it. I only wish I could celebrate, but it has put me right off wine and I think I’m going to remain tee total in the future. I see my oncologist in another couple of weeks and I will be on Herceptin for a bit (Weds is my 3rd cycle). I live for the day that I get some of my energy back, the last couple of months have been really hard in that respect. Taxotere has depressed me on account of the bad reaction I had to it, so I also look forward to being cheerful again.
