Welcome back! So lovely to hear from you. Still have the cold - such a nuisance. Am running and dripping from the nose and eyes, and just disgusting! Can’t seem to sahale it at all. Are you ok my love? Sounds apart par for this taxo course. Do you have the horrible mouth as well? It has been great for weight loss as far as I am concerned!
Good to hear from you but sorry both of you are under par. You’ll be on the mend soon.
I had a lovely day out today with a chum up at St Albans, nearly didn’t get there through my incompetence with a map - the places I go are always on the page edge or split over two pages with staples down the middle - I nearly headed for Bury St Edmunds!!! I had no purchases to make it was just catching up with my friend and having a good natter whilst not walk past clothes shops! BUT I spotted a lovely black evening gown and dared to try it on - hate doing that these days, places are full of loud music and mirrors, but this was more civilised. Anyway, this dress had the wow factor so I bought it. Now I need an occasion to wear it!!!
Good day all round, by the time I got home and husband had opened the post I see he has won £100 on his Premium Bonds, he has more jam than Hartley’s, only last month he won £50 and only bought the damned bonds a year ago - a good investment so far but doubt we’ll be retiring on the proceeds.
I’m off to listen to today’s women’s hour. On R4 this morning at 9.30 there was a short interview with the lady founder of the Breast Cancer Haven which was interesting if you want to hear it, it may be on the “play it again” facility.
Sorry to hear the cold isn’t any better. Tell me to mind my own Dilys but I do worry about you going to places like the cinema as there are so many germs around in those sort of places.
Unfortunately I do have the horrible mouth, they tell you to drink loads but I just can’t face anything it is all so horrible. And I can’t have any milky stuff with the antibiotics they gave me. Although I haven’t been eating much the weight hasn’t shifted. Normally it falls off me if I hardly eat, but I understand it can be the steriods
that make you gain and retain weight. Oh well will just have to deal with that at some future point.
Glad you had such a lovely day Dahlia. I used to live in Barnet just near St. Albans so know the area quite well. Its lovely when you don’t go out with the intention of buying but come back with a treasure. Glad your husbands luck is in, send some here please!
Weather miserable today, curl up time with a book I think, by the way Dilys, I am reading Atonement at the moment which I think you saw at the pictures.
What a great day out, Dahlia. I used to know St Albans well as my aunt ran the golf club there back in the middle ages. And I went to school in Enfield so Barnet wasn’t a million miles way, Pauline.
Sorry you have the horrible mouth too Pauline. It is vile, isn’t it? Now why did they give you antibiotics? I had the same stuff with extra steroids! think you may have a point about cinems etc but actually that day, apart from the three of us, there were only four others there! Whatever I wish it would stop. I have managed to get showered and dressed today but am still feeling very Sorry For Myself. Suppose it is just taking ages to shake off. I don’t think I am going to Leicester Square tomorrow for lunch as was planned.
Glad you are reading Atonement - it is indeed the film I saw recently. Bet the book is even better.
Fine this end although the weather is ugh. Hope it’s been brighter for Lucy further south.
I think it’s going to be better on Sunday and we’re out for the afternoon on the Kennet and Avon canal - last time we went (years ago) it piddled down all day so here’s hoping it is at least dry.
Oooo aren’t the nights drawing in, doesn’t seem more than a few weeks since I was out on my bike until 9 of an evening, Sorry to be a misery but it feels like it’s going to be an awfully long winter …
Have a nice weekend, hope you’re rid of the cold Dilys.
Disappearing post Pauline! No I didn’t see it. Did anyone else? Hope you are ok Pauline? My cold is still here but dying down very slowly. Think these things just take longer to go when your bloods are weird. But I need to be ok for next week - have the LookGood FeelBetter workshop on Tuesday, then the onc, then the penultimate chemo on Thursday! Saw “my” Westies today in the street - I do miss them. They were with their grandma but gave me a great greeting.
Kennet and Avon canal sounds brilliant Dahlia. I will keep everything crossed for the weather for you. And yes you are so right about the days drawing in. I notice it a lot in the mornings now. Eurgh!
Glad you are feeling better Pauline. And yes the time flies past between treatments doesn’t it? It seems no time since we were quaking together at the starting line. I have 18 herceptins all together, the first three coming at the same time as taxotere, and I suppose I just carry on with herceptin after that. I haven’t managed to get a time line from them for radiotherapy or indeed continued inflation of the implant, much though I tried last time I saw the oncologist. I’ll have another go on Wednesday but they didn’t want to talk about it until chemo was over, or at least that was my impression. And of course it is not under the onc’s control - different consultant apparently for radio, one I haven’t seen yet, and of course the breast surgeon for the implant. It will all come together somehow. How about you Pauline?
At least the sun has come out for a while today, which makes a change! May be it will stay dry for Dahlia with luck. Will be off for a wander round the shops later.
Hope you get somewhere tomorrow with your continued treatment plan. I have radiotheraphy after the taxotere and then go back beginning next year to start the herceptin. At least I get a break from needles in between!
How are you doing with eye brows and lashes? My eyebrows seem to be thinning but are hanging on in there and still got my eyelashes at the moment. I understand it takes a bit longer with the taxotere for hair loss so not counting my chickens just yet!
Lovely to hear from you, and glad you have a forward plan. Are you feeling ok? I am going to try again tomorrow to get some sense of the next steps from them. Can’t believe it will be the 5th chemo on Thursday, blood permitting!
Eyebrows and lashes thinning rapidly I am afraid - lashes in particular not helped by a bad cold. I am gong to one of those LookGoodFeelBetter workshps this afternoon so hope to come home armed with some tricks to disguise the damage! And the sun is out, even if it is getting chillier, which always makes me feel better.
Wonder how everyone else is doing? We have been very quiet recently…
Good to hear you are both doing ok. I am sure you will enjoy the Look Good Feel Better this afternoon Dilys and will bring home lots of goodies.
I went for a job interview or what they called an informal chat yesterday so who knows I may be back at work soon. It was just for 3 days a week which is great to start with.
Dilys, good luck with your appointments this week, I hope your bloods are ok so you can have your chemo. After that just 1 taxotere to go. Sounds good doesn’t it.
Great to hear from you again and even better about the job news! I am actually looking forward to getting back into the real world. Well done you. Hope it works out for you. The workshop was great fun and the goodie bag full of things I had no idea existed! It was great. I hope that my bloods are ok tomorrow as well. Onwards and upwards! Can’t believe the end is in sight. And that workshop was full of women who looked fantastic. Hard to believe they have been and are going through the same thing. We should all be proud of ourselves.
Well I am in an internet cafe getting some shade from the hot sun - that’s got you!
It stayed dry Sunday morning and for the first half hour of our narrowboat trip and then rained for the next three and a half hours!! I couldn’t believe it. Last time we hired a narrowboat was about 10 years ago one August day for someone’s birthday and it rained all day that time! Anyway, we were able to make hot coffee, had our picnic in the tiny cabin and had a few laughs about the fellas fighting over who would steer. We nearly crashed into one of two houseboats as well so next time the women will be “driving”!!!
No word from Lucy I see.
Dilys you get (apparently) heaps of goodies from the look good, feel better, and all lovely brands of makeup. I regret that I never got round to going to one.
Just an FYI - I recently registered on breastcancer.org - US site with absolutely tons of information and well explained. They also have forums and some very interesting chat as well as a more organised private messaging system with INBOX etc like BCPals.
Right, better go, my euro’s worth is just about done.
Now that has got me going! Euro? Must be somewhere other than here where you wold not be sheltering from any hot sun! Hope it is good, wherever you are.
Back from the hospital. Bloods ok for tomorrow thank goodness so here I go for number 5 of 6. Definitely getting there. I managed to establish that the herceptin then rolls straight on on three week cycles. Next time I see the onc they pass me seamlessly to the radio people. Probably a slight break to get over the chemo and then a few weeks of radio. No news on the inflation as there was no sign of the breast nurse for once, but I can sort that out later. So feeling a bit more “sighted”.
Goodness 5 out of 6 done already! Great news, where did the time go? My break twixt chemo and radio was about 5 weeks but then we wanted to go to South Africa inbetween so I probably got a week extra before RT cos after RT they don’t like you to travel anywhere for min 3 weeks and that would have been an issue for me over Christmas so they very much accommodated me.
Hey, we’ll soon be able to book our posh afternoon tea! Will try and have to make a date as it might be busying up towards December. Blasted supermarkets have cards etc. out all over the place already - I’d happily boycott them all if we could shop elsewhere!
Right, off for bus back to apartment then on the hunt for dinner - I fancy swordfish.
Just want to wish you well for tomorrow Dilys. Glad you seem to be getting somewhere with your treatment plans. Can’t believe tomorrow is penultimate!
Do you have radio at the same time as Herceptin then?
Dahlia, you have us all guessing where you are ? Lucy by the way is on holiday for a couple of weeks and I must say she deserves every last minute of it.
Lollie, good to hear from you again, glad to hear about the job, you will have to keep us posted. 3 days a week is ideal really.
Thanks for your good wishes. I am so pleased to be getting it done with now. And yes it looks like radio at the same time as the herceptin. Can we complain? Have you read the articles in then press today about how good herceptin is? Looks like next time the onc will hand me over to the radio people, as I said. So Like WW1 all over by Xmas (eek?) - no!
Still here and kicking, all of us. Something to celebrate? We will be fine. And Pauline, you are nearly there with the chemo too. Can you believe it?
Hope all went well for you today - only one left!!!
Haven’t seen a paper today I am afraid so obviously haven’t read any articles, will have a quick look on line in a minute.
Yes although I will spend most of next year on Herceptin at least the chemo and rads will nearly be done by Christmas, just can’t believe it. It will be a Christmas to celebrate! At least you are saving a few weeks by having the chemo and Herceptin together.
Hope you have a better ride on this dose and don’t get the aches, etc as bad. Trouble is the bad taste in the mouth doesn’t seem to go at all does it? Just listen to me what a whimp complaining about bad tastes!!! At least you will be cold free which should help you feel a bit better.
