Message for Shell Hello Michelle

I’ve noticed from your profile that you started Tamoxifen in March this year which was several months after finishing radiotherapy.

I’ve met some people who started their Tamoxifen at the same time as radiotherapy and others who started taking it straight after rads and am wondering why there is such a difference in people’s treatment.

Did they tell you why in your case they left a gap of several months before starting you on it?

Many thanks
Anthi

Hi Anthi Hi Anthi,
Sorry but I have no idea why it was a while before I started taking tamoxifen, infact until I’ve read other posts I thought it was the norm.
I did have a mix up with appointments last year as I should have seen my onc in November before starting herceptin on 6th Dec, but never got any and the chemo day unit phoned me on 6th Dec to tell me I had missed my appointment to start herceptin, but since I never received one how could I know. So herceptin was started on 20th Dec without me seeing the onc until March which was when she gave me the tamoxifen.
She must think it’s okay for me to have it 3 months after finishing rads so I hope she’s right. I don’t see her again until September so will be asking her the question then.
Best wishes, Michelle.

Hello Michelle and many thanks for your reply.

Yes I’ve read several things recently which suggest that a gap of a few months before starting tamoxifen doesn’t really make any difference. In any case I’m sure your oncologist knows what she is doing.

I’ve recently had rads and met women in the waiting room who had been treated at several different hospitals - it was interesting to compare notes about the different ways we were being treated.

Best wishes
Anthi

start date for tamoxifen Hi,
I was started on tamoxifen the day I was told the results of the cone biopsy. So as you say there seems to be no hard and fast rules, just as long as we are started on it during the treatment period I am sure is OK.
Good luck
