Hi, i’m new here and am looking for some advice and guidance. My Grandma has been diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer which has spread to her ribs and spine, she had a double mastectomy 6 years ago but now it is back and they say she has a few months. She has just come home from hospital where they have put her on morphine to control the pain. She is very weak and only able to walk a short distance, also her eyesight is starting to fail which is a worry, She will have carers coming in 4 times a day and the rest of the time it will be down to the family. I am looking for some people to share their experiences with me and to give me some guidance on what to expect and how this will progress. I know every case is different what it would be helpful to know roughly what to expect.
Dear louisar

You could also give our helpline a call to talk things over. They will be able to offer information and support to you. The opening times are 9-5 on weekdays and 10-2 on Saturdays. The number is 0808 800 6000.
Very best wishes

Hi Louisar,
sorry to hear about your grandmother. I won’t comment on the cancer itself as we are all very different. We have all got different treatments and prognosis. As Janet advised you give the help line a call, you will be able to ask all the questions that you need answer.
You might also want to get your grandmother referred to an hospice. There you will not only get support for her but also for the family and get help and advice on caring for her.
She is lucky to have you as a grandchild.
Take care
