Microcalcifications 18 months post surgery, rads and hormone therapy

I underwent a core needle biopsy on Monday because microcalcifications have been found at the site of the original cancer and just under the skin. In Novemer 2005, I had wlic, radiotherapy and take Aromasin. Obviously, I’m terrified it’s come back, or is on its way. I go for the results next Wednesday.

Anyone else had experience of this?

No, I haven’t, but wish you all the best for your results.

Not all microcalcifications indicate malignancy, so let’s hope yours are benign.

Just to let you know that I am still thinking of you, RedPolo.

Hi everyone

Thanks for your support so much appreciate it. Got the results - 14 biopsies all benign but they want to take some more, had another 5 today - very unpleasant and got a different tale to the one I got last week from the consultant. I was told had it been anyone else but me, they would have been discharged for a year! Some people around the table, however, wanted ‘bigger’ samples of the calcification - hence today’s appointment. Was told today that the pathologist couldn’t get a precise result from the samples taken previously. Who do I believe?

Get the results a week on Wednesday.

Love to all

I really sympathise, RP.

Microcalcifications are what gave the game away for me. BUT I only got the bad result after a TWO MONTH interval! Initially,16 core biopsies were taken and 15 came back negative, with one showing atypical cells. I am so grateful to the very experienced radiologist who insisted on taking more, but had to wait for the massive haematoma to reduce before this could be done. Imagine if he’d sent me away …

So, ghastly as it is, I think they are right in being cautious, given your history. Everything may yet turn out to be benign, and I really hope this will be the case, but they are right to check you out thoroughly.

Is Aromasin taken for hormone positive DCIS / breast cancer?

Mcgle

Hi mcgle

I’m just keeping everything crossed, thanks for your message.

Yes, Aromasin is for hormone positive BC; the new ai drugs seem to be really good at keeping it at bay, lots on the internet about them.
