Microcalcifications
I am waiting and going crazy. i had my first appt at the clinic on 8th Feb. I had a lump in my right breast it proved to be nothing but they did a mamogram on both and found microcalcifications on the left. i was given a biopsy with ultrasound immediately and told in 7 days results. To cut a long story short I have now had 3 biopsies last one was vacuum assisted the one where you lie on your tummy. All the results were inconclusive suspected dcis. Any way I met with the surgeon 2 weeks ago and we set a date for a lumpectomy with wire and needle guidance for the 31 March he said I will just check with radiologist to make sure he is available. Came back and said he refused to do the wire and needle thingy as their equipment was not good enough analogue as opposed to digital. I was then referred to another hospital and another consultant surgeon to set a date for the 15th April. Has anyone had this type of experience with microcalcifications

Ok my op was done in one day, I had to get to the hospital quite early, they did usual tests to make sure everything was ok then I went for a mammogram and on to ultrasound. At the ultrasound they gave me a local anesthetic and made a small cut and threaded a thin wire through to the area that needed removing, then they strapped the wire to the outside of my breast (its quite weird because the wire is quite long and before it was strapped it was flapping about like an ariel. After that I had to wait a couple of hours for the surgeon then I was taken down given a general anesthetic and they did the op. When I woke up they gave me a couple of hours and rang my partner to come and get me. I was still a bit woozie but fit to go.
I was a bit sore (turning over in bed etc) but it wasnt too bad at all. Multicoloured boob for about a week. All in all it wasnt half as bad as I thought it would be.
I now have a scar of about 4cm and a bit of a dent but it doesnt show when I have a bra or strappy top because they try to do it where it doesnt show.
I must say though that I was absolutely terrified before it happened, its quite normal, its fear of the unknown I think.
I think the waiting for results was much more stressful for me than the surgery.
