Hi Loubyjane

I would ask a lot of questions about the need for an immediate mastectomy. Have they mentioned immediate reconstruction? If only DCIS is dx immediate reconstruction is a possibility and it seems like you are not being given the chance to explore that option. Reconstruction can be done at any time but immediate reconstruction has the best results. Find out what they think is there. If it is invasive cancer then there is not a lot of choice but you need to find out what is suspected to make a decision.
Hope you find the answers

Hi Beverly!

Thanks for your reply! I can not get a clear answer from the consultant…do they give immediate recon when it is done on the fly …I can not do waiting for one I wouldn’t cope and am considering refusing masectomy untill they know what it is …but they don’t talk to you just over you it is very annoying!!

many thanks

Hi Loubyjane. I’m so sorry you are not getting the info you need from your doc, and that people aren’t listening to you. This is really bad treatment. You must insist that your questions are answered. Have they given you a Breast Cancer Nurse whom you can telephone and email? If not, give them a ring and ask if you should have been given one, and if not, who you can call to ask questions. I know it’s difficult trying to be assertive and worrying about annoying people, but give it a try, babes. Nothing to lose.

Hi emma Thanks for your reply I have not been given any offer of further contact and have been trying to contact the team all day and will try again tomorrow it is very frustrating …rang this help line again today and they talked to me which did help but advised me to ring hospital again tomorrow so will have another go will let you know how it goes!

many thanks LJ xxx

Hi Loubyjane

As your hospital seems so user unfriendly I would be tempted to go up there and sit there until somebody answers your questions. You must have the complete picture before you make a decision. There is no ‘have to agree’ to a mastectomy until you know all your options.
Keep on trying.

No I quite agree infact rang the helpline here today and very nice lady was very certain that I should not agree and if it was needed that I insist it be done after initial op results are back and after chatting about it that is what I am going to say …she also suggeste that I ring the unit which I did and it was on answerphone so left message but know they won’t ring back as so far they never have so will ring again tomorrow! I am not being put off again!!! I am determined!

Thanks for all the support xxxxxxx
