Mirena coil removal and bleeding

Hi,

Not posted before, diagnosed at end of March with ER+ BC, started on Letrozole straight away and had to go for further biopsies last week. Will get results next week with treatment plan although from my last appointment I am to get surgery followed by radiotherapy, just not sure what extent the surgery will be. I had to stop all HRT straight away (patches and Vagirux) and also had to arrange for mirena coil to be removed.

My question is, should I still be bleeding/spotting when my coil was removed 19 days ago? Has anyone else been in this situation? Will I be ok waiting till next week to speak to the consultant or should I be reaching out to Breast care nurse this week?

Many thanks :folded_hands:

Hi Poppy-13

I’m so sorry you have had to ‘join this club’ but there’s so many lovely people on this forum who will soon be replying to you.
I cannot comment on the coil but I can identify with stopping HRT. Your body is trying to cope after being on those hormones so is going to be out of sorts!
You should have been given a number for the breast nurse. They will be able to advise about the bleeding.
There are also nurses on this forum if you cannot contact your breast nurse.
Good luck
Lynn

Look, stopping HRT and yankin’ out a Mirena all at once is a total hormone grenade, so spotting 19 days later isn’t exactly a shocker. Don’t sit there spiraling for a week; just ring your Breast Care Nurse now to clear the air so you aren’t a nervous wreck waiting for your consultant.

Hi @poppy13 ,

Thank you for posting. It is understandable that you have questions about the vaginal bleeding you have experienced since your Mirena coil was removed 19 days ago. This may be a reaction to the removal of the mirena coil but as @Lynikinz and @lydi09 say it is important to talk to your breast care nurse if you have not already done so. They can assess you and advise if any further investigations such as an ultrasound are needed.
