Mixed bag of results

I went for my post op biopsy results today.

it all started very positively, the surgeon said ’ all good news where the surgery is concerned’. No lymph node involvement and clear margins. Cue happy faces from myself and hubby. Then she said that it was now known that my tumour is HER2+ therefore Herceptin and chemotherapy followed by radiotherapy then tablets.

Then presented with a big pile of leaflets. We then left in a bit of a daze and have spent the rest of the day trying to get our heads around it. Was expecting 3 weeks of radiotherapy.

I’m a bit concerned that they didn’t seem to want to give me a copy of my pathology report. The surgeon offered me a copy of the letter then said to the BC nurse ‘perhaps you could write down the details on a piece of paper for her’

Anyway Grade 2 invasive ductal, ER+ HER2+. Without the HER2+ I would have been just radiotherapy.

Isn’t it a sh!t when you get good news bad news scenario however you need to believe that yiour MDT will know the best course of action for you x I was hoping that at some point we would have some lovely ladies go through without a change on original diagnosis/treatment plan . Is Chemotherapy next step for you? Sending a hug xx

Chaffinch

So some good news in there and some not so good news, but you need to give yourself time now to digest what you have been told today but take one day at a time

Sending you both a hug.

Chaffinch, Thanks to the her2+, it’s made it a bit more complex, but it’s still good news & you will get your head around it.
Try not to read anything into what the surgeon said about the path report, she was probably only trying not to complicate it for you at that moment. You will be able to have it if you want it.
It will now be dealt with
ann x

Hi Chaffinch, pleased to read that the lump was removed with clear margins and you’ve got no lymph node involvement, but sorry you’ve now got to have chemo when it wasn’t expected. Thinking of you xx

Chaffinch, sorry to read this but the main thing is you can be treated! I’m similar diagnosis to you but need another op to clear pre cancerous tissue and lymph nodes as one was affected so I want them out. Not what you wanted to hear and it will take a while to sink in but step by step we will be treated.
I was surprised how better I felt once I had my treatment plan. Keep us updated.xxx

Morning chaffinch hope you managed to sleep x

The very best thing any of us can wear to look good is our smile x it sounds like your hairdresser is very caring x my regular hairdresser is shaving mine and my sisters head on 9th October (just in case anyone doesn’t know my sister is doing brave the shave and although my chemo is unlikely to have started then we are doing it together) my mom wants to be there too for us both x

Hi Chaffinch, I have no node involvement and after second surgery had clear margins. I was shocked with the Her 2 status initially and the grade 3 as I was just expecting radiotherapy. However, I am focusing on the fact that there is something to treat it with. Take care xx

Hi Chaffinch it seems i have had the same diagnosis as you only mine comes a year after being diagnosed with non invasive breast cancer (DCIS) 2 ops and radiotherapy. I have had a ct scan snd bone scan for staging. My treatment will include masectome, chemo, hormone treatment and herceptin. I meet with my consultant on wednesday for results of scans and treatment plan. I like you am trying to get my head around things and get on with it. I have 3 children so trying to be as normal as possible for them. I wish i had had the full works last year now so although i know this is all daunting at least you will be getting the best treatment to avoid it com8ng back x
