MLD after effects

Well, I had my first of ten MLD sessions this morning. When she had finished she asked me how I felt and said that I might feel tired and I might need to pee lots! Anyway, I felt absolutely fine until about an hour later when I started to feel tired. I then felt completely spaced out for the rest of the day, and even a bit sick. I manage to smash a plate at lunchtime, and drop my yoghurt (two separate incidents!). All a bit all over the place. I really wasn’t expecting that. Has this happened to anyone else? I’m hoping I don’t feel like this for the whole two weeks!

Thanks Norberte. I’ve had a whole week of MLD now and I’ve got more used to it. It had a real effect on me the first day and I felt pretty rough. My lymph therapist did it for less time the next day and she hasn’t done my neck as that can apparently make you feel sick. It has been better. I’m tired and have had an upset tummy all week, but ok otherwise. One more week to go!

Hi Hatts, wow that is a lot of MLD, the most I have had was 3 in a week. I now have it once a month and each time I am absouletly whacked after it and yup do need to pee a lot too. I love it though, nice and relaxing (apart from the opening of the groin nodes…makes me want to throw up)anyhow makes a huge difference to the lymphoedema in my breast. Good luck with it all and hope it makes a big difference for you .

Yes, it is rather a lot! The recommendation was every day for three weeks but that was just too difficult with work etc. I’ve got used to it now. Therapist is nice and we chat throughout the session. Will rather miss it when I finish!

Im on day two today of ten days of massage. Went home after and had a good sleep. Dont know if this is due to the treatment or a busy weekend. Im a little worried as my lymphoedema is quite bad and must have been coming on for a while. I thought the hardness was scar tissue. Neither my oncologist or surgeon picked it up.Im thinking about monthly appointments at a lymphoedema massage clinic when treatment finishes just so someone else can look out for the signs because I`m obviously not much good at it!

Hi Mimsy,

I do exactly that for peace of mind. I have mild LD in my arm and in my breast. I find it reassuring to have someone who knows what they are doing check me over once a month. The wait to see my LD nurse if I suspect a problem is quite long, but this way I don’t worry about missing something and waiting to be seen.

Good Luck

Andie

Thanks Andie. Im in the USA (here with hubbys job), so the whole systems a bit different from back home, but the treatment is prompt and there when you need it. Theres a private lymphoedema massage centre as part of the hospital which insurance may pay for, extra to the physical therapy unit Im now attending. Im glad to hear that you use regular therapy as a way of keeping a check on this problem. I think for me it could be a good preventative measure since I was mistaking lymphoedema for scar tissue, and my current therapist is amazed I let it get so bad. Still, only four days of massage and it`s improving. Also, to start each day with a massage is quite relaxing!
