More "Be kind to myself" time

Hi girlies and men

I’m very, very fortunate. Despite the fact that I have bc, bone mets and lympho, I also have my humble caravan in Anglesey where I’m off to today for just short of two weeks. It’s a very quiet site, only 25 vans, no children only well-behaved grandchildren, so no noise, just peace and quiet.

While I’m there, I read a lot. Got a telly but it’s very rarely on. I do my arm exercises regularly, drink less, eat healthy. Take the dog for walks on very quiet beach, even in the peak season.

This all means so much to me.

People have said, “Ooh, in your situation I’d do all the travelling I’ve ever wanted, go white-water rafting, go to New Zealand, Oz, China, see the world.” Blah de blah de blah.

First off, can’t afford it.

Second off, don’t want to.

Third off, WHAT??? Sounds a nightmare, all those airports, crowds, currencies etc.

No, two hours’ drive and I’m in heaven.

See you soon. Be good - and be kind to yourselves.

Good luck to us all.

Hi Maureen

Is it a touring or static site?

Sounds ideal and much nearer than where we found in Scotland.

We’re in Burnley and have a touring caravan.

Enjoy!

Hi Maureen

Have a lovely, peaceful “me” time. I envy you !

Hope the weather is nice but if not I am sure you will enjoy yourself.

Love to you.

Hi Maureen -

Have a lovely peaceful time, even in the rain that part of the world is wonderful.

I do know what you mean bout world travel. While I was going through chemo I planned loads of trips in my head. My niece and daughter took me to New York - it sounds ungrateful but I was glad to get home. I am lucky and live in Hampshire , a beautiful part of the country. I just don’t want all the stress, expense (I would have to go back to FT teaching to pay for it all) and bother, being able to walk over the Downs, listen to the birds and enjoy the peace is enough.

Thinking of you and your dog striding across the beach.

I live on the east coast of Scotland and a walk by the Firth of Forth does it for me every time. I’ve never been a very good traveller and I really don’t think I can be bothered with airports now - I hate being on flights lasting more than 2 or 3 hours as I start to get panicky. I feel really sorry for my OH at times as I know there are places he would like to go to.

However, I’m just glad to be living in such a pretty but rugged landscape. I love the sound of the water as well. I’ve never been a lying on the beach person and I’m pretty happy with my lot. I’ve been trying to talk OH into getting a static caravan on a nice site for ages as it would be great for weekends, but he’s not biting yet!

Maureen

Hope you have a fabulous time in the caravan - and enjoy some wonderful ‘me time’ in your little haven. I know exactly where you’re coming from - we have a camper van and go off in it to the Lake District (Coniston) most weekends. It’s been my saviour since diagnosis, somewhere to ‘hide’ and think things through and, daft as it sounds, I feel ‘safe’ in our little camper. Enjoy your holiday, your escape, your perfect place.

Hi Maureen

Hope you have a great two weeks. After my primary treatment finsihed I rushed round the world…well went to New Zealand and Aus…ghastly holiday…shocking weather (in December so should have been good), dreadful jetlag, nearly split me and partner up…now I content myself with lots of little short breaks in UK and sometime venturing to Europe.

I’ve also moved out of London to Winchester and now have the best (I think) of nice countryside and accessible to London where a big bit of my heart will always be.

Jane

Maureen - if you haven’t left yet - sounds bliss to me - sheer heaven. Hope you have the loveliest time

You are so right to do the simple, easy, lovely things you want to do. All the hassle of flying elsewhere certainly puts me off at the moment, but I am in the middle of chemo. All I’ve craved so far is a trip to the seaside which OH and I are going to do today and then stay in a nice hotel, just the 2 of us, no kids (teenagers). No hassle to organise but a little treat which I’ve been looking forward to. Visiting an area of UK we wouldn’t have been to if the ugly bc hadn’t reared its head again.

Like JaneRA we live in Hants, an area not always associated with great countryside, in a lovely village and enjoy walks to our local pub by the river to meet friends and this can really make our weekends just as much as going somewhere further afield.

Have a fantastic time while you’re away - sounds like bliss.

Hi Maureen, hope you have the loveliest of times…your so right…I think Anglesey is just beautiful, spent many many summer weeks and weekends there in the past, when had a caravan in Benllech, sadly dont have it now…but oh the memories…crabbing off the pier at Beamauris…sitting on the rocks overlooking sunsets at Moelfre…brisk walks all around the Anglesey coastline, can’t beat it…simply the best…enjoy enjoy…Doolallyx

Hi, ladies

Came back sooner than expected - due to Grandad not booking required holidays off work. Honest to goodness, MEN!! I TOLD him I wanted to come back Wed or Thurs but did he listen - NO!! Any road up, no great shakes. He doesn’t know I’m going back next week after son, wife and grandchildren have been - hehehe.

Ginjill, would love to do a caravan swop but this site only allows for - to quote - “well-behaved grandchildren”. Hope you enjoy your waterskiing. Tried it but couldn’t get butt out of water!! Windsurfed and swam Trearddur Bay for years though.

We’ve been caravaning on Anglesey for 30+ years and never locked the van at all, except when we leave. Never had any problems.

There’s a thread on here somewhere about books of the week, and I’ll go there now and tell you what I’ve been reading …

I’ve been doing arm exercises for lympho but don’t think it’s doing any good :frowning:

Good luck to us all.

Forgot to say …

He came down on train on Thurs night so we both had to come back together. Make sense???

Good luck to us all xx

Hope you are enjoying your break in Anglesey. It’s a lovely place was there last year just after chemo with a baldy head! Hope you can make the oct meet in liverpool.

Love Irene

The New Forest in Hampshire is beautiful and I live v close to it. So us in hants do have some nice countryside. I think there is so much building of new homes etc on greenbelt land in this county and some areas are very towny and lack character. I live in a small market town with a beautiful park and my house looks over a playing field.
