I will be back in hospital tomorrow for more surgery after receiving my WLE results last week. The lump was 49mm and grade 3. They got clear margins all round except the surgeon thought there was a strange hard area off to the side so he did a cavity shave on this bit. 9/10 slides were positive so I’m due to have another cavity shave tomorrow to see if they can get clear margins from this bit. Not sure why they are not removing it though. Will also get results of bone scan tomorrow. Valentines day will never be the same again.
ive never felt so withdrawn and anti social in my life. Don’t want to see or particularly speak to anyone. Called in sick at work today for those reasons. Just want to scream but I’m afraid I may never stop.
please oplease no more bad news tomorrow
So sorry you are having to have another operation, but my surgeon assured me a cavity shave is a minor op - in and out quickly. I am having one on the 22nd. to shave a little bit more tissue from one side of the tumour cavity. My tumour was grade 3 invasive and was removed completely with clear margins, like yours, but the pathologist found some DCIS non-invasive cells in and amongst the invasive tumour that did not have a big enough margin.
Anything you are not sure about you must ask - ask your surgeon tomorrow when he comes to see you, and if you still do not understand, call your BCN. You will feel so much better when you understand what and why. And remember - the grade 3 tumour is no longer there and you had clear margins. That is positive.
Good luck with your bone scan results tomorrow. What a horrible day for you. Lots of hugs xxxx
Well I have been discharged and back home. No reaction to the anaesthetic this time. Thank goodness. Apparently my follow-up is not for 3 weeks which I find rather strange. Not sure whether this is good news or bad.i know it all depends on the path results from the cavity shave, but I was told if they don’t get clear margins this time then I would need an Mx. Also my bone scan results were supposed to be back- and I’m actually sure they were because when I asked the surgeon he said no they weren’t and then removed something from my file.
Im now split between 2 camps either they are pretty sure they have got everything this time and my follow up appointment will be to discuss chemo OR my bone scan results are cr*p the cavity shave proved to be a far larger area and basically there is nothing further they can do and an Mx would be iirrelevant
I think I prob sound hysterical, don’t feel it but I think a 3 week wait is just pure torture!
Hi LS,
I’m glad you got home quickly! I am 2/3 of the way through a three week wait for my post surgical results after mx and axillary clearance. It has been awful waiting. After speaking with my BCN today, my results are apparently back and they have already had their patient conference about me, so I just have to wait for my appointment next week, no results over the phone… I think the length of time is to make sure all results are back and conference completed before patient’s return.
You will be making assumptions, brain working overtime, but the reality is rarely as bad as our imaginations! Anyhow, try to keep to displacement activities as much as possible (my favourites being retail therapy - online as I can’t drive again yet - and chocolate) and try not to second guess the medical team, nothing good can come of it!!
Will keep fingers crossed for you. Lots of hugs
MM
I do hope you’re right. It’s just every time we go the news gets worse. So I would have thought if they thought everything was ok they would have been wanting to crack on with the chemo.
I have a wound check appt ( by my insistence as I can feel a sort of slosh in my re excision site- most bizarre) on tues so I will try and see what’s going on then xxx
