Hi Bobbie,
Poor you, sounds like you are really suffering. After my first FEC I had one huge, very painful ulcer. I rushed straight out and bought some Aloe Vera toothpaste from Holland and Barrett and am pleased to say I didn’t experience any more ulcers throughout my chemo. I did have a white furry tongue so maybe this would have been worse had I not been using the toothpaste - as well as brushing my teeth I also brushed my tongue! Also, I always wore lipbalm, day and night!
I’m sure you’ll get lots of replies so hope you manage to get something that helps. The usual side effects of chemo are hard enough to cope with let alone sore chemo mouth aswell. Good luck with the rest of chemo and let us know how you get on.

Hi
I have found that a waatermelon cut into chunks from the fridge helps to sooth the mouth.
Sorry that you are having such a time of it, good luck and hope it clears soon.
Sarah
Sorry to hear that you’re suffering so much, I was where you are two weeks ago, and gradually they are getting better
I’ve been give Gelclair by my Onc team in case it happens again
Maybe try asking foe this, as I’ve heard is is good stuff
Rebecca
Thanks Sarah and Rebecca will try your tips and will ask Onc team for gelclair. Little easier today thinK acylovor working. Don’t want to have to rely on them every month make me feel a bit spaced out … mind that’s nothing new, since chemo feel I’m in a complete fog all the time , I cannot drive , think I would be a liability.

Hi Corsa,
I had the same problems with my first chemo. I was put on anti viral and anti fungal tablets to take from day 5 after chemo. I had acyclivir and something else. They helped keep the sore mouths at bay. I also had gelclair to use as well - it does work. Also try a very soft toothbrush to prevent scrtching gums, use it along with toothgel rather than paste. Pineapple juice is good for keeping mouth cleansed.
All this may seem like a lot but it worked for me. Hope it helps you too.

Hi Bobbie
Have you had your bloods checked it sounds as if you have a very low blood count, i had to go into hospital one week after having ist taxi could not sip water thorugh a straw they gave me oramorph with disolvable paracetemol which the two together is absolutely fantastic for pain makes you drowsy also put on intrvenus antibiotics. Had second taxi 6th March and had 5 lenagrastim injections starting 5th day for neutrapenia but still today have nose full of blood and mild sore mouth rang chemo suite nurse said just part of sore mouth etc. Also heard today of someone having reflexology this improved blood count within two days so think i may try that.
Hope tips help good luck and take care

Hi Bobbie
I am also having chemo and have so far managed to avoid mouth problems.
I use DENTYL. It’s 100% alcohol free and leaves a sort of slime in your mouth which keeps it damp. It’s when it dires out that the problems start. Years ago I spent a fortune in a central London clinic has I had bad breath (i.e. nasty bacteria) and couldn’t get rid of it and this mouthwash was just being developed at the time. The specialist recommended it and it works in a very differrent way to the other mouthwashes.
I know that other people on here are also fans.
Suggest you ask your nurse/ chemist first to make sure that no unusual reactions will take place but … if you’ve got another mouthwash that treats your condition then I’d consider using the other one first and the Dentyl afterwards.
If you try it then let me know how it goes … I’m usually on “anyone starting chemo”.
I like the clove flavour but they do mint too.
Good luck
Lots of love
