MRI Cost

Does anyone happen to know how much approx a private breast MRI costs?
Cheers,

Hi Zoe - I don’t think MRI imaging is usually done for bc - mammogram, ultrasound and core biopsy are the usual ways to dx bc. However, my husband had 2 spinal MRI’s last year, one on the NHS, the other privately, which cost £1,500. I would imagine the cost will be the same for a breast MRI as the area of the body is not a major factor, it is the time on the machine, technician’s time, and a radiologist to interpret the scan.

hi i asked for MRI as i had mammogram and nothing showed then biopsies etc. they just concentrated on one breast i had lump. so before op he said any q i said how do i know its not in other one he said mammogram would have shown it. i said didn’t with other. so he ordered a MRI luckily nothing. i am not trusting usual mammograms now i am having in depth one privately re bupa at a cost of 90 pounds worth it once a year. good luck. Hi,
I paid for a private MRI scan last year as I had lobular cancer which did not show up on mammograms or ultrasound and was only dx after core biopses. I wanted to check the other breast, so my surgeon advised MRI. The NHS could not do one for a couple of months, so I had it done privately at a cost of £375.00 + £50.00 for the contrast injection.

Regards

Hi
I had one privately last year as I didnt have cancer so couldnt get one done on the NHS - despite being a gene carrier. It cost me £400 including the injection.

Hi Zoe

i had invasive lobular diagnosed in late nov 07, nothing showed on mammogram or ultrasound - seems i have dense breast tissue - although there was a lump to be felt so i was sent back to consultant - core biopsy and hence on the treadmill of treatment (When i went to GP 2 weeks before there was no lump/thickening just a change in nipple appearance).

I was then sent for an MRI on NHS hellishly noisy!! we don’t know your reasons for wanting an MRI but the fact you seem to want one tells me you need to be asking? I hope you get peace of mind. take care

Jennifer

Hi, thank you all for your replies.
I was asking because I am at high risk of BC (family history but no genetic fault) and the surgeon I saw last week not keen to operate without a proven gene fault. (I want a prophylactic mastectomy). I was trying to weigh up my options and so wondered the cost of a private MRI.
