Hello everyone, Been reading posts for a few months now and thought time I introduced myself I’m 67 and after regular mammogram screening got a recall.Had 2 biopsies done a week apart which ae back clear just atypial cells. They thought best I have a lumpectomy to remove. This was done in September and 5 weeks later saw surgeon who said he did in fact find a 7mm mucinous cancer. He said he got clear margins but because he did not check lymth nodes during surgery as had no reason to suspect cancer I now had option of more surgery to check or 5 days radiotherapy to breast and little under arm. I went with radiotherapy.I’ve just returned from planning today.I’mon tamoxifen for 5 yrs as tumour was er8 pr8.
Just a few questions…. I understand mucinious cancer an be pure or mixed nurse today coudn’t tell me as pc was playing up!
Also have COPD and sometimes need antibiotics and steroids to clear up chest infection would this be ok with tamoxifen.
Has anyone had similar diagnosis would be great to hear from you if you have.
Hi @lindalou1 welcome to the forum. Sorry you haven’t had any responses yet but I’m sure they will come. I haven’t had the same as you but wanted to recommend having a chat with our nurses on 0808 800 6000 between 9.00-16.00 M-F or to 13.00 on a Saturday. Obviously only your own BC nurse can confirm details of your precise histology but having a chat with the BC Now nurses can clear up more generic questions and it’s just good to chat to someone experienced in times like this. Good luck with treatment.
I also had pure mucinous carcinoma - I was diagnosed when I was 43 (two years ago). It was a 50mm tumour and I also had a lot of benign tumours and LCIS. My cancer was 7/8 for ER & PR. I had a full mastectomy, radiotherapy and I have been on tamoxifen have mostly tolerated that well.
Very happy to answer any other questions you might have and wishing you well with your ongoing treatment
Thank you for reply Rach, seems it’s quite rare form. I too seem to be tolerating Tamoxifen not too bad…..but ony been a month so hope it continues. Do you get regular appointments with oncologist or just if you have issue you contact them? xx Linda
