Hello, on the 10th October I was told I had Cancer. After lots of tests they told me it was stage 1 grade 1 IDC. However they also told me the same day that they had seen other areas of concern. I was then put through two more very painful biopsies. Two weeks later I was told I also have ILC grade 2. They are unsure of the size, but suggested it could be up to 10cm.
The recommendation is a right breast mastectomy with 1-4 sentinel node removal. The CT showed no spread but because of the uncertainties regarding the actual size I have been told I may need radiotherapy and chemo after. I was told I need to make a decision on immediate reconstruction, implant or deip flap. Or to go flat. I have opted for the immediate deip flap (autologous) recon and left size reduced. But I’m so worried that if I need radiotherapy the new breast will be damaged and I will be left disfigured.
Has anyone else had this diagnosis and what did you choose? Or has anyone had radiotherapy after the autologous? Did it have much effect?
As well as dealing with this, I am struggling with other people’s reactions or lack of to be exact. I am single and my kids are grown. My mum god bless her has taken me to every appointment. I’m scared for what lies ahead and how I will manage. Any advice or tips for things that made recovery a little easier would be really appreciated. It’s highly possible my surgery will fall over Christmas.
I’m really struggling right now to come to terms with it all and trying to get on with life, and work while waiting for the appointments with the surgeon.
